Chapter 5 Rome. Present day. Little felt as though she had spent the entire afternoon walking down all of the tiny convoluted streets in the neighborhood in search of the Carli family shop. She tracked the steps she was sure she knew, hearing her father telling her younger self that the Carli family had been selling a variety of delicacies in that spot for as long as he could remember. He would tell her that one could trust them because everything they sold came from their little farm outside the city, deep in the countryside where, he said, they know the real meaning of what’s fresh. She knew she was in the right place. So why was this a toy store?
