THEODORE I hardly paid attention to the conference because of how shitty I felt. Alice's words kept replaying in my mind, and I asked myself for the hundredth time if I might've made a mistake in my assumptions. This time, the answer I got was...unclear. The conversation I overheard was the nail in the coffin for me. From her point of view, I seemed like a pretty shitty guy alright. Carmella's presence was certainly complicating things, but Alice had no way of understanding that I didn't want to marry her, and that our relationship expired a long time ago. If I could just switch off this insane desire I felt for her, we'd be able to move past this easily and quickly. She didn't want me? Fine. Move on.
