Chapter 4

Cosmo’s POV Dad," I answered unenthusiastically. I know for a fact that he wants me back home. I haven’t been there in a long time, as I have done things he finds despicable. Everything I do is for my family; that’s how I was raised by him. We only do what will take the legacy of Sternberg to higher heights. His logo. "Cosmo, get here as soon as you can." He bitterly said that, and the call got disconnected. Does he even care what I was busy with? This old man needs to get going now, as it is a very long-distance trip. I quickly typed an email to the people I was supposed to meet, cancelling the meeting. I got into my Jeep and started driving to my house in the forest. I own a Jeep because I sometimes stay in an isolated area in the forest, but currently I am renting an apartment close to my office. I was driving at 60 miles per hour. I have to make it early so that I can get it done and come back. When I got to the house, I parked the car in the garage and went to the basement. I went to the fridge, took out a bag of blood, and drank all of it. It didn’t taste good at all. I don't know if it’s because it’s been here for a long time or because I now hardly drink it. My father’s clan drinks animal blood as we are trying to mix ourselves with humans; we do business and live in the same neighbourhood as them, so we are trying to be as normal as we can be. I am not exempt from all of them. I know I have 50% of my vampire speed, and the sun doesn’t affect me as it normally affects vampires. Our family scientist injects me with something that makes my skin be able to take half the sun's effects from time to time. I put on my coat and went outside. I can't use my car to get where I am going, as we have to avoid making tracks that will end up with humans knowing of our existence. I use my vampire speed, and it will take me three hours to arrive at home. I am Cosmo Sternberg, King Sternberg’s heir and the vampire king. I am a billionaire, a vampire, and every lady’s dream. Besides my money, I have the looks, and ladies die for me, literally. I could now see the tall, grey building where I grew up. I got to the city of my kind; only supernatural beings can see this city. I went to the garage, took the car that I use here, and headed home. "Good evening, my lord." I greeted my father as I entered his office and stood in front of his desk. He lifted his eyes from the pile of papers on his desk and said, "Evening, son, right in time before dinner. We have special guests tonight; that’s the reason why you are here." He said it with a straight face. My father is very strict, and if you care that much, you would think that he is heartless. This is the only trait I inherited from him; it’s very useful in my line of business. "Special guests?" I was annoyed. "Father, you seriously made me walk out of a meeting for guests." Sarcastically emphasising the importance of the word guests. " Yes. That’s your proposed wife and father-in-law." He narrowed his eyes at me. I felt anger brewing inside of me. I hate the thought of marriage; I am on every girl’s wish list, married and unmarried. How can I possibly settle to bang on one woman for the rest of my life? There’s no way. "This again? I am not getting married." I calmly said this to him, which made him stand up and look me straight in the eyes. It’s too bad that he made me grow up to be just like him: stubborn, unfriendly, and not letting anyone sway my decisions. He is my father, and I respect him, but he made sure to teach me not to be scared of him. "Cosmo, this is for strengthening our family name and your legacy. I need grandchildren, people who will take the reins after you." He sharply explained, and I was not touched at all. I rest my hand on the desk just like he is doing and look at him. "We are vampires, remember? We live for thousands of years, and I am the youngest vampire here, and I am still going to live. I am not going to get married, not now." I turned to leave and turned the door knob. "I will be there for dinner and probably give her advice on finding herself another husband." I said this as I was opening the door and going out. I passed by the kitchen to greet my stepmother. "Mom!" I called out. "My baby, you are here." She exclaimed, hugging me so tightly. "Are you okay? Hungry? Sit down so that I can make you food." She was holding my arms and looking at me anxiously. "Mom, I am okay, and I am not hungry. I will wait for your dinner because I know you went all out for it. I showed my straightly aligned teeth to her. "So, you have met with your father?" She asked, removing her hands from her and looking down. "Yes, and I am not going to do it." I said I was going out. "I will see you at dinner." I called out to her.
