Cleo’s POV
It's a few minutes after lunchtime, and we have a meeting with the boss. I feel a bit anxious, and I don’t know why.
I took my notepad and went to the boardroom. When I got there, I found the senior accountant already sitting with the receptionist.
"Afternoon, colleagues." I said it bluntly and felt so awkward afterwards. I took a seat on a chair that had its back on the door as we waited for the man of the hour.
"Afternoon." John exclaimed with a friendly smile, and I respectfully returned it.
The feeling I had when I was in my office just got worse when I sat down. "What can be so bad about meeting the owner of this place? I mean, I got this job only because I am qualified for it." I quietly told myself Whatever it is, I will not let it embarrass me. Footsteps that were enclosing the boardroom disturbed my thoughts; the closer they got, the faster my heart beat. When he took the first step inside, he abruptly stopped as his phone rang.
" Dad?" A hoarse, sexy voice was heard, and as to the sound of his footsteps, he was now going further away from the boardroom. And surprisingly, my beating heart slowed down, and I was weirdly glad that the person he said dad to called.
Five minutes after he went to answer his call, our phones simultaneously beeped an incoming notification. It was an email cancelling the meeting with no explanation. I looked up from my phone at James and Zane, but they just took their things and stood up. And I did the same.
