Chapter 9

Cleo’s POV I gathered all my things and stood up. And my arrogant boss was looking at his phone like it was the most interesting thing on earth, just after talking to me with so much respect, like he didn’t mean to. As I was walking, I could feel his intense gaze on my back. I knew that if I didn’t say something, I was going to lose my walking ability. I quickly turned around, only to find him focusing on his phone. "What the..." I swear I felt his eyes on me. "I thought to myself. I walked out and breathed a sigh of relief as I closed the door behind me. When I got to my office, I sat down and relived the meeting. That guy is "handsome", Today I got to have a good look at him. He has weird crimson orbs; a lot lies within them. He has this aura of authority that I can't explain. He is also way pretty for a human, and beside that, he is really a human being because supernaturals are just myths. He is scary, but I find him attractive, weirdly. As I walked into his office, he was intensely observing me with an emotionless expression. If I didn’t know that he only enjoyed annoying me, I would say he was fighting his feelings for me. My stupid heart hitched as he quietly observed every step I took. You know the look a groom has when his bride is walking down the aisle—the "that’s really mine" type of vibe? The difference was that it was no wedding, and the guy was just looking at me emotionlessly. And as the douchebag he is, he didn’t allow me to greet him, as he posed a question before I would. He has a way of evoking every single nerve in my body; he infuriates me, and I can tell that he enjoys it, which is why I don’t let him see it. The meeting was fine, though I had to change the way he approaches business, which he didn’t really fight about. Too bad I will be working with him alone since John will be taking a sick leave. Cosmo’s POV "Yes." I inquired with a straight voice. "There’s a launch later today here in New Rochelle; the contracts that we talked about will be announced." "That’s like four hours from now." "I only heard of their availability now." "Okay, I will be there." The call was disconnected. "F**k, my PA is so far away, he won’t be able to get here today, and I can’t take the receptionist as she has to be at the front desk always." I calmly creaked my head; no matter the circumstance, I never stressed or worried. I need someone to go with me, and I should be heading to bed now. Great. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so I dialled my receptionist’s number and put the phone in my ear. It only rang once, and she answered. "Mr. Cosmo. She sounded so delighted to hear from me—not that I am surprised. Forgot something in the office?" "Send me Cleo’s phone number." "Herrr?? I mean, I will just now." She was unsure. As much as I want to show her who the hell I am—I didn’t expect it to be so early—I can’t tolerate her attitude. My phone flashed an incoming text message, and it was the number of this strange girl. Without further ado, I called her. "Miss Lopez, speaking." Her sweet but confident voice resonated in my ear. Who is this girl? "Cleo, for two days you will be my accountant and my PA. Now get ready; we are heading to New Rochelle. Send your address, and I’ll pick you up." I immediately hung up. I inserted my phone in my pocket, and when I was about to take my laptop bag off the table, my phone rang. I took it out of my pocket and answered. "Yes." "Sorry, mister, I think there might be a mistake with your call. She sweetly replied, and I could tell it was one of her tricks. " Because I don’t know who I'm talking to." Really? This woman really knows how to play this game; how does she challenge me the way she does? "Your boss, now get ready unless you want to lose your job." I disconnected the phone again.
