Chapter 4

Pardoning Josh. "You are proud to acknowledge that you let her do that without violence? Are you a shameless person? As a man, where is your dignity? You were a disgrace to manhood and should have been wiped out.” Alvin got up from his chair. He leaned over to Joshua and snatched his shirt before he could get away. "You wish to flee? Please, if you can, flee. “Sir, I apologize. Even though I know I should not be telling you this, I can't help myself. When we watched the video, you had to see how it happened. Holding his breath,” Joshua explained. “How she did it is not relevant. You should save your f*****g tale for a listener.” Alvin didn't hold back after slapping Joshua. “If it were not for the CCTV footage, I could have sworn she was innocent. Do not hurt me, please. Please spare my life, and I swear not to hurt you anymore,” Joshua begged after caressing his slapped chin. “As an accomplice, you are aware that I could have you arrested, right?” Alvin threatened Joshua further without minding how remorseful the latter was. “Arrest Why? How? You remember my vow not to harm you”. “I remember saying that, but you are making me second-guess my choice to let you go. It is clear from your actions that you do not regret what happened. When you recounted your adventures at the bank, you sounded content and candid. If I wanted to, I could get you arrested as an accomplice. You will be rotten in prison without a fair trial. Your carelessness and ineptitude merit harsh punishment.” Alvin got furious. He seemed to have forgotten the promise he made earlier. “I wish to demonstrate my worth to you. In what way can I compensate you? This one was a failure; the next one will be different. Give me another one, please,” Josh promised for a second chance. "There will never be another opportunity, dummy. There was only one slot available, and you missed it. You will never be given another chance by me. If this assignment is not up to par, how can I expect to trust you with the next one? Money does not come to me by chance. Making money is something I work very hard at. Did you think I had it easy from birth? No, sweetie. By myself, I created my billionaire legacy. Please tell me why I should not have you arrested.” Alvin shattered Josh's dreams and the opportunity to prove his worth again. "I do not think you will be able to earn half a million dollars with your attitude. Such errors ought not to occur in any business setting.” Alvin stated further. With both hands behind him, he said, “This is my final judgment." After a long silence, he went on. “By this decree, you are expelled from this gold mine. This place does not need people like you. We would prefer to stop losing money in that manner. Leave these premises immediately and clear your desk. Your ugly face is something I would prefer to avoid seeing.” “If you are discovered anywhere in this building, I will give the guards orders to shoot you right away” Alvin declared before returning to his seat. “Please don't do that to me. I am willing to make it right again if it means going the extra mile to prove that to you,” Joshua vowed. He's practically exhausted all the tears in his eyes. He never thought that Alvin would put all the blame on him. "You ought to have considered that before letting someone steal your check. This time, you might do worse if I forgive you. I would rather not take a chance.” Alvin refused. He seemed to have made up his mind, and nothing can change that. “I promise you that I have changed. I am sorry, but this is the first time I have made such a big mistake. I am willing to forgo a few months' worth of pay to rejoin the team. I am sure you are capable of doing something.” Joshua knelt on the ground to prove how sorry he was. “Which team? The team never had you on it. Just so you know, I will set up a replacement for you right away. I am pretty sure there are a million people out there who would love to be in your shoes. Do not waste your time pleading with me to accept you again because there will not be another chance. I no longer want to collaborate with you on projects. Your work being free is irrelevant to me. I want you to f*****g read my mouth.” Alvin confirmed Joshua's dismissal. After the confirmation, he grabbed the landline. “Is that the security division? I have a quick task for you both, so please come down to my office right away.” “Is the security department being called on me? Everyone would now be aware of my termination. Respectfully, sir, that is a slap in the face. I believe I am worthy of better,” Josh protested. “Damn you, Joshua. I determine the proper course of action. It is my place, not yours. I cannot let you dictate how I treat my employees. Are you getting the message? Why are we even speaking at all? Since you are no longer with us, you should not be seen interacting with any of our employees, including me. If I were you, I would have left already to save myself from shame. I have, however, summoned the security. They would be here in no time to kick you off like a criminal.” Alvin issued the last warning to Joshua. “It is all over for me. This one is certainly lost," Joshua muttered. He got up from the floor and gave up already. He realized that it was all over and accepted his fate. The only person he could blame for his bad luck was himself. He could have avoided all of this if he had handled the check with more caution. Joshua worries not only about losing his valuable job, which he searched for so long, but also about not seeing Jenny. He was upset with himself for letting the crazy Fabiola have her when it should have been his. He is going to lose his job and his crush, Jenny, the two things he values most in life.
