Chapter 6

In the hospital, Vivian lay on the bed, touching her stomach as she cried. "Griffin, I'm so scared. The doctor said I might be having a miscarriage. Our baby..." She caressed her flat abdomen, sobbing inconsolably. "It's all my fault. I shouldn't have provoked that Ann Fletcher. If anything happens to our child, I don't want to live either." Griffin stood by the bed. His tall figure was shrouded in gloom. He hadn't slept all night. Stubble had grown on his chin. His eyes were bloodshot. His mind was a jumbled mess. In the basement, that woman had been trembling all over, clutching a diary. That familiar scar on her wrist. And Vivian's piercing scream when she rolled down the stairs. All the images intertwined like tangled threads, making his temples throb. He reached out and patted Vivian's hand stiffly. His voice was hoarse. "Don't overthink it. The doctor said it's just a minor bruise. A few days of rest and you'll be fine." His tone lacked the usual tension and concern. It was replaced by a weary sense of duty. Vivian keenly sensed his distance. Her crying paused. Her heart raced with alarm. She tightened her grip on his clothes. "Griffin, are you blaming me? Do you think I hurt her on purpose? But I really didn't know she had claustrophobia. And she was the one who pried open your box first. I just..." "Enough." Griffin cut her off, his voice impatient. "Just rest." He pulled his hand away and walked out of the room, shutting the door on Vivian's unfinished performance and grievances. He needed some time alone. Standing by the window at the end of the corridor, he lit a cigarette. But he didn't smoke it. He just let the glowing ember flicker between his fingers. Who was that woman named Ann Fletcher? She claimed to be Sienna. Ridiculous. As if he wouldn't know who Sienna was. How did she know the password to that box? Why did she have the exact same scar as Sienna? Why did his heart feel like it was being squeezed when he saw her having an episode? A swarm of questions gnawed at his sanity. Just then, Gary sent a text: [Mr. Gates, I'm waiting for you at the hospital entrance.] Griffin's fingers trembled slightly around the cigarette. He stubbed it out and strode toward the elevator. Sienna stood by the flower bed like a statue carved from stone. A black Maybach stopped in front of her. The window rolled down, revealing Gary's face, full of conflict and worry. "Miss Shaw." His voice was low, tinged with a slight tremor. Sienna lifted her head. Her hollow eyes finally showed a flicker of light. "Gary." Her voice came out hoarse. Gary's eyes reddened instantly. He quickly glanced toward the hospital and spoke rapidly. "Miss, I can't say much. Do you remember that Mr. Gates has a safe deposit box at a Swiss bank?" He seemed afraid of being seen, speaking extremely fast. "After Mr. Gates woke up, he forgot everything. But he remembered that safe. For seven years, he has flown there every year and tried countless passwords. He could never open it. He said there is something very important to him inside. He hasn't told anyone. I'm the only one who knows." Sienna's heart began to race uncontrollably. "The password..." she murmured. "Miss, I have to go." Gary started the car. He gave her one last look, his eyes full of desperate hope. "Mr. Gates is waiting for me." The car merged into traffic and quickly disappeared. Sienna stood there, as if struck by lightning. The Swiss bank safe. The password. It came back to her. It was a "permanent asset" Griffin had given her when they were deeply in love. He said he wanted to lock all his love and secrets inside, and the key was her heart. And that key, that code... Vivian, you liar. I know exactly how to destroy you now. Vivian was enjoying fruit cut by her assistant in the hospital room when the door suddenly burst open. Sienna walked straight in. Vivian was startled, but immediately put on a pitiful act and shouted toward the door. "Griffin. She's here again. Security." Griffin followed right behind Sienna. He looked at her with a deep frown, but he didn't stop her. Sienna ignored Vivian's shouting. She walked directly to the bedside and looked down at her. "We need to talk." Her voice was soft but carried undeniable authority. "About the safe deposit box." Vivian's expression froze. The half-peeled apple dropped to the floor with a thud. What safe deposit box? She looked at Griffin for help, only to find him staring intently at Sienna. His expression was a mix of shock and curiosity, something she had never seen before. A wave of panic seized Vivian's heart. Sienna ignored Vivian's screams. She looked at Griffin and spoke clearly, every word distinct. "Union Bank of Switzerland, Zurich branch. Box number AG717." Griffin's pupils constricted sharply. This address. This number. They were his deepest secret and obsession. For seven years, like a madman, he had tried again and again, failing every time. He had never mentioned it to anyone. Sienna didn't give him time to think. She continued. "The password is eight digits. 06221118. The date we started dating. At the end, there are two more letters. S.N. My initials." With every word Sienna spoke, Griffin's face grew paler. She dropped the final bomb. "Inside is the first gift you ever gave me. A platinum necklace. Engraved on the pendant are the words 'My Sienna.'" Sienna stepped closer and looked up at his face, twisted with shock. "Now," she said, "do you still believe she is Sienna?"
