Chapter 5Ignacio woke, eyelids slitting open. Two things became apparent immediately: he was in his human form, and he was in a hospital. The bed under him was uncomfortable, but perhaps that was the lingering pain, his body like one large bruise. He looked around, found Kev and Cedes on chairs near his bed. He smiled, and both finally noticed he was awake and turned, suddenly animated.
“Nacho!” Kev said. “You’re alive!”
“Observant as ever,” Ignacio muttered, searching the rest of the room. Was it disappointment that he didn’t see Reed there? Or relief?
