"Are you kidding me... they looked like Vampires!?", Kramer said with an angry tone as he hit the brakes.
The car came to a stop, he shifted the gear into parking and looked at Maev.
"What are you trying to do?!", Kramer asked as he looked at her, his face filled with anger.
"Kramer I told you what I saw! And I've described them to you and I could ... feel that they were Vampires!", Maev replied with the same tone staring at him straight in the eyes.
" Feel what?! As far as I know, you are a healer, not a werewolf or one of those species who can sense things ten thousand miles away! You're nothing special Maev! " I could feel that they were Vampires", Kramer said in an angry tone, mimicking her.
He was upset since he felt that Maev was implying that his kind would be spying on him. After all, he was their King and they wouldn't lack respect for him. What if it's true.. and they are only there looking after you?, he said to himself as he looked at Maev's face. She was looking at him with half-opened mouth with tears shimmering in her eyes.
He turned his attention towards the road as he tightened his grip on the steering wheel, he heard the clicking sound of the seat belt and he turned and looked at her as she opened the door and walked out. Kramer removed his seat belt and got out of the car.
" Where do you think you are going?", he shouted after her, his voice echoing amongst the trees.
" Anywhere but here!", Maev shouted back as she tried to walk faster.
" Suit yourself, you can find your death out here , more convenient for me !", Kramer shouted back at her and returned to the car. He stood there by the door and looked at her as she walked away and it didn't look like she was going to stop and come back as she strode down the road not looking back.
Kramer shook his head and got inside the car, he started the engine and shook his head as he shifted the gear into drive. As he reached her , he slowed down next to her but Maev didn't turn to glance at the car , not even once. Her gaze was fixed ahead and as stubborn as she was, she wasn’t going to give up so easily, regardless how cold it was. Maev tightened the jacket around her as the cold breeze brushed against her skin. She felt like her feet were about to freeze, those boots were not doing any good for her, but she forced herself to keep on walking. She was fed up with Kramer's attitude, he didn't believe her and even went further to tell her that she is just a healer, that she was nothing special as if her gift was inferior to his great abilities!
" Maev get in the car, it's a long walk to town", Kramer said angrily as he pulled up next to her. Maev kept walking and didn't even reply.
" Gosh, this woman is a handful !", Kramer whispered with a growl as he stopped the car and got out. He walked up behind Maev and grabbed her by her waist and lifted her carrying her back towards the car.
" Let go of me!", Maev started to shout as she kicked her legs. Kramer covered her mouth with one of his hands to muffle her voice as he tightened his other arm around her tiny waist. He opened the passenger door and Maev resisted getting inside the car. Kramer turned her around and pinned her against the car.
" I've had enough of you!", Kramer shouted at her and she could see his fangs.
" And you think I enjoy your company!", Maev replied sarcastically.
Kramer growled as he tightened his grip on her arms. He had it with Maev, she was driving him to the edge and the only thing going through his mind there and then was to kill her and dump her body out here in the woods. He saw her flinched and he looked at her arms and noticed a small trickle of blood running down her left arm where his claws had dug into her flesh and he turned away from the sight of her blood. He slowly let go of her and took in a deep breath as he turned his back towards her.
" I never wanted this. I use to love my life and my freedom!", Maev said softly as she placed her hand over the scratches on her arm.
Kramer turned and looked at her, his expression softens and he relaxed. She looked up at him with sadness in her eyes and then turned around and got into the car. Kramer walked to the other side and got in the driver's seat slamming the door.
" Let's just stay out of each other's way, otherwise death will surely do us part", he said with a serious tone before he started the engine.
His fight with Maev had completely drained him. He needed to feed, and at the sight of her blood, it had taken him a lot of courage to move away from her without digging his fangs into her neck. He turned and looked at her arm she had cured her wounds and one will never know that a few minutes ago her arms were black and blue from his claws. This woman brought out the worse in him, he had never done anything like that to any other woman unless it was in a battle but that would have been for self-defense.
" You can get out here, I'll pick you up when I'm done ", Kramer said coldly and without answering, Maev opened the door and walked out. She didn't look back, even if she was in a place that she wasn't familiar with she rather be among those strangers than anywhere close to Kramer Grand. She heard the car speeding away as she entered a small café.Everyone turned and looked at her making her wish that she had at least changed her hair color. Of course, they will look at a stranger with dark emerald green hair wearing a pair of boots that were way too big for her. Not minding the other people, she walked to an empty table by the windows, removed her coat, and sat down. She looked around the café, everyone had resumed what they were doing before she had walked in. A young girl came over to her table and handed her a rectangular book with the word Menu written on there. At first, she didn't understand what it was until she opened it and smiled. The book that tells you to want you can eat and drink, she thought as she read the list. She was surely reading without any understanding, the names looked weird and she had no idea what those things were. I need to choose something, Maev said to herself as she noticed that the young girl kept glancing in her direction. She smiled when she saw the word coffee, her friends had spoken about this magical drink that kept them awake and as the young lady came back to her table she ordered something which had captured her attention, an Irish coffee. The young lady smiled and said,
" Perfect choice for this weather!".
Maev smiled back and wondered why that particular coffee was perfect for a cold day. She looked outside, though she could barely see much because of the foggy windows she smiled. She was happy to be by herself, she needed this moment of solitude. She didn't want to think about what had happened earlier. She rather concentrates on other things around her as much as possible. As she turned her gaze back inside, she noticed that two young men who were seating at another table were staring at her and smiling. Maev didn't know what to do as she felt her cheeks blushing. She had never had any man stared at her like those two men were. She hoped that they didn't come over as one waved at her trying to get her attention. Maev smiled as she glanced outside, trying to avoid making eye contact with them.
" There you go Ma'am, enjoy!", the young lady came back with her order.
She took a sip and the first touch of the coffee on her palate made her cough. She wondered why it tasted so strong, but still, she took another sip.
The warmth of the coffee warmed up her stomach and for a moment she forgot that her soul was as cold as the weather. This must be a magic potion for the humans, Maev said to herself and smiled.
She had two more Irish coffees and was starting to feel a bit drowsy and she wondered if the humans were not trying to kill her. She asked the young lady to come over and in a whispering tone, she asked her what was in that coffee.
" Alcohol!?", Maev almost shouted as she covered her mouth with her hands. No wonder she was feeling drowsy, she had never had alcohol before and she started feeling scared that something might happen to her. She tried to stand up but she couldn't, the young lady brought her a glass of water and she drank it quickly and asked for another one.
" Are you ok?", She heard someone asked.
Maev looked up and she noticed that it was one of the young men who was sitting at the table across the room. He pulled a chair and sat down in front of her.
" Yes", she replied not knowing what else to say.
" I'm Dave", the young man said extending his hand.Maev shook his hand as she introduced herself.
Kramer made his way back to town. He was feeling better after he had consumed enough blood to satisfy his hunger. They didn't have to kill all the time to get blood or have to hunt for their victims, they had people who donated their blood and get paid a hefty amount of money by their associates. He dreaded the thought of picking up Maev but he didn't have a choice. He parked the car in the parking space and walked up to the café. The first place he would look for her, he thought as he pushed open the door.
" You are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen around here!", Dave said to Maev and she blushed. No one had ever complimented her like that before and she felt flattered. She was about to answer when she saw him standing there glaring at them.
" So dear wife what do you have to say ?", she heard him say mockingly and he startled Dave who stood up quickly when he noticed that Kramer was standing behind him. Who wouldn't be startled by this tall man, with the physique of a God and eyes as dark as the night?
Maev's looked at Kramer and then at Dave, that young man could never be as good-looking as her supposed husband but she was surely enjoying his company. Dave quickly walked back to his table and sat down, whispering something to his friend which made him glance in their direction.
Kramer helped Maev to stand up as he noticed that she was struggling to stand up straight. He took the glass that she had been drinking from and smelled it. Hmm... Irish coffee, he said to himself as he put an arm around Maev's waist. At the door, Maev turned around and waved goodbye to the young lady and then to Dave. Kramer saw that and dragged her outside to the car.
"Are you done flirting!", Kramer said as he removed his arm around her waist once they were close to the car and Maev nearly fell as she leaned against the passenger door, laughing. Maev then looked at him and smiled, she loved the effect of the alcohol in her body, she couldn't be bothered by his comments, everything was funny and she felt like flying without the need of a broomstick or a magic wand.
" Well one of them would have easily found their way in between your legs, it seems like you were into whatever he was telling you. Didn't know that you could be that easy!", Kramer said and then laughed mockingly.
They both stopped laughing and stared at each other, his face was inches away from hers. His eyes kept moving from her plump lips to her eyes which were no longer looking at him filled with laughter. Anyone who was looking at them would think that they were about to kiss each other, but that wasn’t the case as between them there was only anger brewing!
