Ivy's POV.
"I -- I did" I whispered, my hand still in the air. It was when he glanced at it that I quickly brought it back to my side.
My eyes were still on his face, now that I was seeing him up close, I soon realized how beautiful he indeed was. I mean I had already agreed he was but all that was from a distance.
His eyes were shining tonight, the green of his eyes looking even more piercing the longer I stared up at them, his cross necklace emitting Ray's under the light bulb above my head. Up close, I could make out some tattoos on his chest, a bird, a wolf and a cross. There were others but these were the ones I could make out from his bare chest.
"Are you done?" His voice was really deep too, deeper than that day in school. It had a rasp to it, one that could be both dangerous and soothing.
"What?" I asked, my cheeks reddened at having being caught red handed.
"Checking me out. Are you done?" He mused. He didn't wait for me to answer before he turned and walk back into the room, leaving the door opened.
I took that as my cue to enter and i did. My eyes widened at the sight before me. It was as though the house could not get any more beautiful and then I was thrown this.
It was like a pool house of some sought, only that the pool was not what stole my breath away. It was the art on every wall. They looked extremely beautiful and so talented.
It was as if I had just walked into a very expensive art gallery with how many artwork that was in here.
I walked further into the room, my heart thumping in my chest with each step I took. This place was literally heaven, it was calm, quiet and peaceful. You wouldn't even know a loud obnoxious party was going on on the other side.
I couldn't even hear anything from in here. I felt his eyes on me, watching my every move as I scanned every art here.
"Are you the owner of these?" I asked turning away from the beautiful object to an even more beautiful person.
He gave me a pointed look before going to sit on a stool, an art board in his front. I guess that answered my question. I knew he was strange, but this was pure talent in here. I wondered if he sold them.
"Forgive my asking but what I'm I doing here?"
He hadn't said anything to me since I came and frankly speaking I didn't want to leave this room but not if he wasn't going to say anything.
"I want to paint" he growled not looking at me.
"Paint?" I echoed.
He didn't answer but I could hear pencil strokes on the board and I had every urge to run over and check what he was painting.
"So are you the owner of this house?" I asked trying to make a conversation. He hummed still doing what he was doing.
He looked extra attentive, his brows furrowed together and his lips formed in a tight line. There was a pencil behind one ear and a brush behind the other. While I watched him, he moved still painting and snatched a stick sweet from a bag beside him. My brows raised, finding all he was doing intriguing but extremely confused.
"You live here alone?" I asked again. He raised his eyes to me and when I thought he'll say something to me, he glanced back to his work and simply hummed.
I huffed before turning away from him. I looked at more art and indeed they were beautiful. He was beautiful so I wasn't expecting anything less. I wasn't an art person perse but my mum was. She loved art, not that she was a painter herself but she always harboured good art when she saw them. She would have loved these.
I shook my head not wanting to cry in a stranger's house.
"Ivy" I whisked my head so fast I was sure I heard a c***k. Did he just call my name?
"Should I ask how you know my name too?"
He gave me that same look again and I shut my mouth.
"How did you know where I lived and what was the meaning of that letter?" I asked hoping he was going to say something.
He didn't look up, he didn't even acknowledge that I said anything, all I heard was a c***k from the sweet in his mouth and pencil strokes against the board.
"Are you Hayden?" I asked again and still nothing. I was getting fed up with his silence, he was the one that called me here the least he could do was say something.
"Are you going to keep ignoring me? I mean you asked me to find you at the pool house and I'm guessing this is it. Then you send your friend to come get me and you wouldn't even say anything to me?" I said sharply.
He glanced up at me, the same bored passive look on his face like I didn't just finished venting. He then moved to throw the stick of the sweet into a little basket by his side and moved to snatch another one.
I huffed turning away from him. I should have gone, I should have walked out and gone back to the party but I was too curious for my own good. I still wanted to see if he would say anything to me. I was very sure there was a reason he called me here.
And I wouldn't deny that same feeling of familiarity was there. It was as though I knew him and I didn't at the same time. I couldn't explain the pull I had to him but right now standing in the centre of this room with him just few feet away, that pull had never being stronger.
I wrapped my arm around my self trying to stop myself from moving over to him.
"Is Ivy a shorter name for a long one or that's your name?" He asked monotonously. I turned again expecting his eyes on me but it wasn't, it was on his work.
I decided to play him by his own game and not answer him and after some few seconds of my silence, he raised his brows to me. I raised mine back and he smirked, that same smirk he gave me in the hall way that day. The same smirk that made my heart skip a beat that day and even today.
My face contorted into a frown when I realized what was happening inside me. I turned sharply away from him, massaging my cheeks slightly to stop the burning in them.
I wondered why I was reacting this way to him.
"Which one do you like?" He asked again.
I turned back to him. "What?"
He stood up now, his tall body making me raise my neck a bit to see his face. He was really tall, the tallest man I had ever seen.
"I'm guessing you are not an art person?" He stared down at me. I wrapped my arms around myself tighter feeling cold all of a sudden, his eyes on me was making my knees weak.
"No I'm not but I knew someone" I replied turning away from him and back to the art that had somehow managed to steal my attention.
"You knew?" He echoed. I simply hummed not bothering to look at him. I somehow knew he would be able to read me once he saw my eyes, I don't know how I knew but I just did and I wasn't about to test that theory.
"I see". "So this caught your attention then?" He said raising his chin to the same art I had been staring at. It was of a pregnant woman, her face looked extremely happy that she was pregnant but all around her was blood, so much blood. It got my attention but I didn't know what it meant.
"Do you know what it means?" He asked me as if sensing my thought process.
I shook my head expecting him to explain but he simply smirked and walked back to his seat, taking another lollipop and putting into his mouth.
I rolled my eyes at his behavior that I had soon come to find extremely annoying.
"So what are you painting? And please answer me this time" I said, my voice pleading being completely fed up with his one answer or no answer at all.
"Just something" he shrugged not looking up at me.
Of f*****g course.
"Are you going to explain the letter to me now Hayden?" His eyes raised to me, he squinted it and tilted his head as he stared up at me, an action I hated that I found extremely attractive.
I cleared my throat, shoving such thoughts away as I marched his gaze.
"See you've figured it out yourself" he replied.
"Well you don't tell me anything. I just took a quick guess" I shrugged. He hummed still staring at me.
"You didn't answer my question earlier Ivy" the way he called my name was causing a fire in my belly. One I had not experienced in a long time.
"What was your question?" I asked.
He gave me a look again before clearing his throat and speaking. "Your name? Is your full name Ivy?"
"Yeah it is why?"
"Nothing" he shrugged breaking his sweet again and discarding the stick.
I didn't think someone like him would have the habit of l*****g lollipops. Someone that looked extremely hard on the outside, with just a glance your way you were already melting, either running away in fright or running towards him in curiosity.
I had never met anyone as confusing as him and I had only known him for a week or less. I didn't even know if saying I knew him wasn't a bit of a stretch. Yes the familiar feeling was there especially the more we conversed but he still remained a mystery to me. I didn't know if I wanted to dive deeper into knowing him or if I wanted to simply run away.
They both felt extremely tempting.
"I have a job proposition for you" Hayden growled still sitting and painting.
I turned towards him, my brows raised. "What makes you think I'm looking for one?"
"The pay is quite good" he said coolly, raising his shoulders high and not bothering to look at me.
My ears perked up at that. I had always wanted a part time job, my parents weren't that rich but we never lacked anything, and now that they were dead, they left a considerable amount for us but not enough to take care of my personal needs. Like Betty said, I actually was due for a new wardrobe.
"What is the job then?" I asked
He glanced at me briefly and then back down.
"I want to paint you".
