Father walked me to the door of my room. As I was about to say good night, he quickly spoke, "I expect to see you at breakfast tomorrow" he cleared his throat as he glanced away from me.
Can't this man just be straight forwards with his feelings? He can just ask me to dine with them, yet he makes it sound like a command. I guess I'll have to get used to this.
"I'd love to," I answered. He nodded, and I walked into my room, closing the door behind me. After taking a deep breath, I rushed over to my desk and continued to come up with a plan on how to avoid my doom. After a few minutes of contemplating, I decided it would be best to remain in this household. Although being looked down on is annoying, at least I get to wear pretty clothes and eat good food. If I run away, my life will be full of difficulties and showerless days.
Now, as for my doom, I think I can easily escape it as long as I don't bully Priscilla or, better yet, avoid her altogether. As for the other characters, I might not be able to avoid being in their presence, but I can avoid getting close to them apart from Benjamin. If I come into contact with them, a friendly greeting and a quick farewell are a good idea. I'll just turn myself into a side character. The less I participate in social events, the fewer people will recognize me; I'll become just another face in a crowd of nobles.
But the one character I worry about is Edgar. I don't know what to do about him. He becomes evil because he yearns for love, and the one person he thought he could get it from rejected him and later avoided him. After all, she felt awkward.
Ugh. I feel so bad for him, my chest hurts. How can Priscilla be such a b***h? She knew of his past and how people saw him. She knew she was the only person who was kind to him but still avoided him like everyone else because he told her how he felt about her.
Why couldn't she just be straightforward with him? Thank him for telling her how he actually felt about her, saying she doesn't feel the same way but still wants to remain friends. I swear the whole coup and the death of thousands could have been avoided if she saw things from his perspective.
That means the only way I can prevent a coup is to stop Edgar from falling in love with Priscilla. But how can you stop someone from developing feelings for another? I could befriend him, but that goes against my decision to avoid the characters, and even if I befriend him, it doesn't mean he won't fall in love with Priscilla; I'll probably just end up being pulled into the coup and die.
Suddenly an insane idea came to me, in which I won't have to die and could continue to live a comfortable life. But it's such an insane idea! Yet, it's so insane that it might just work.
I'll be Prince Edgar's fiancée!
……
The Mina from the book was a candidate to be the crown prince's fiancée, but because of her mother's commoner blood, the nobles weren't so keen about making her the next Empress. But they were okay with Priscilla, a full-on commoner, on the throne. Wow, even though Priscilla is the protagonist and I liked her, now that I see things from a different perspective, she's been pissing me off a lot. And I haven't even met her yet!
Anyways, Mina never got to be Crown Prince Jeremy's fiancée, so maybe she could be Edgar's.
Edgar was born to the Empress, while Jeremy was born to the King's concubine. Even though Edgar was the second son, people thought he would be heir to the throne because his mother was the Empress. The book mentioned how Edgar excelled at everything he did while Jeremy was just…good, and although Jeremy was a bit of an i***t, people loved him while they feared Edgar.
Edgar was even sent off to war while Jeremy remained in the Capital. Even though Edgar came back a hero, the nobility just saw him as a bloodthirsty killer. I swear, no matter how much good he did, the nobles always found a way to judge him. Then, in comes Priscilla, who believes in him and shows him affection, but in the end, even she rejects him. Damn, it was so obvious he would be the final boss; he had the backstory for becoming a full-blown villain. I can't believe I was shocked when I read that plot twist.
Now that I think about it, although it's an insane idea to want to become his finacée, Mina actually has a lot in common with Edgar. They could have become each other's strength and fallen in love since both were rejected by people, especially those they cared about the most. The author could have made a spinoff about them, that is, if they hadn't been killed off.
I should bring this fiancée's idea to my father. His daughter will be engaged to a prince, and the prince will be engaged to a powerful noble's daughter. It's a win-win. Not to mention that we are both hated by the nobility, and no one would want to marry their child to us, so Edgar and I are practically made for each other. And as long as I spend time with him and shower him with affection, he might not grow up to be a homicidal maniac.
But for my plan to work, I need to meet Edgar before he meets Priscilla, so we need to meet while we're still children. Sadly, the novels only show Mina and Edgar talking when they are teens, and I can't wait that long. Maybe I can meet him when I meet Jeremy?
I know Mina meets Jeremy at a tea party when Mina turns 11. It was hosted by his mother at the castle garden. When Jeremy's mother noticed Mina, she decided to make her a fiancée candidate, not because she approved of Mina but because she wanted Count Heartfelt's influence to make sure Jeremy got the throne.
It was a flashback in the book, not very long, but it did show that Mina knew the concubine was using her, but she didn't mind because she loved Jeremy.
So…although I'm not interested in Jeremy, going to that tea party is out of the question. Even if I promise not to bully Priscilla, when the concubine lays her eyes on me, it's game over. Jeremy will still fall in love with Priscilla, and he'll consider me a hindrance to their blossoming relationship. Jeremy will strip off my fiancée candidate title; my family's reputation will take a huge hit, and I might never be able to marry. Not to mention that Jeremy could also exile me just in case I want to take revenge on Priscilla for taking my spot as his fiancée candidate.
I don't want to go through all those possible troubles that can be avoided if I get engaged before then. So, it's better to get to Edgar before Jeremy even lays his eyes on me. That means I have to meet Edgar this year, and the sooner, the better.
My head already hurts from all the overthinking, and I need to get up early for breakfast tomorrow. I'll have to continue my plan tomorrow.
