Chapter 5

Sebastian’s office was buzzing with action as arrangements for the wedding started faithfully. The company’s PR group had been brought in to oversee the subtle elements, guaranteeing that everything showed up genuine to the exterior world. Lila found herself cleared up in the hurricane of arranging, scarcely able to keep up with the quick pace of occasions. The wedding date had been set for a fair little few weeks, taking off small-time for moment considerations or doubts. One evening, as Lila was checking the visitor list in Sebastian’s office, the entryway burst open, and Richard Klein walked in. His nearness was commanding, his eyes sharp as he took in the scene. “Sebastian,” Richard said, his voice cold and definitive, “I believe everything is continuing as planned?” Sebastian stood to welcome his granddad, his expression carefully unbiased. Yes, Granddad. The wedding will go off as scheduled. Richard’s look moved to Lila, his eyes narrowing in investigation. So, this is the young lady you’ve chosen. I must say, I’m astounded. She doesn’t appear your regular type. Lila felt a flush of outrage but kept her composure. She knew better than to let Richard see how much his words influenced her. Sebastian’s grin was tight. Lila is idealized for what I require. She’s clever, dedicated, and most imperatively, she gets the significance of this arrangement. Richard raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. We’ll see almost that. Keep in mind, Sebastian, if you don’t have a spouse and a child inside six months, the company will be given over to the most elevated shareholder. And I won’t delay making that decision. The danger hung in the discussion, overwhelming and inauspicious. Sebastian’s jaw clenched, but he gestured in affirmation. “I’m completely mindful of the stakes, Granddad. And I guarantee you, everything will go with the agreed-to plan. Richard’s look waited on Lila for a minute longer. Sometimes he turned and cleared out the office, his flight taking off a discernable pressure in the room. Lila discharged a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding, her hands trembling marginally. “He doesn’t like me,” she said quietly. “It doesn’t matter if he likes you,” Sebastian answered, his tone steely. “All those things are that we persuaded him this marriage is real.” Lila gestured, her resolve solidifying. She had come this distant, and there was no turning back. The other few weeks would be a test of her quality, but she decided to see it through. --- The wedding day arrived quicker than Lila had expected. The ceremony was a little small, private issue, gone to as it were by near family and a few commerce partners. In spite of the effortlessness, the occasion was fastidiously arranged, each detail carefully organized to keep up the figment of a honest to goodness marriage. As Lila stood at the sacrificial table close to Sebastian, her heart beat in her chest. This was the minute that would alter her life forever. Sebastian’s expression was incoherent as he took her hand, his grasp firm but not unkind. The pledges were traded rapidly, the words feeling empty and pure, but Lila constrained herself to remain centered. This was all portion of the deal. When the officiant articulated them spouse and spouse, Lila felt a bizarre blend of alleviation and trepidation. The, to begin with, portion of the arrangement was total, but there was still much more to come. As they strolled back down the path together, Lila couldn’t offer assistance but took a look at Sebastian. His face was a cover of calm, but she knew there was more going on underneath the surface. What had she gotten herself into? The gathering was an obscure neighborly discussion and convention. Lila played her portion impeccably, grinning and gesturing at the right minutes, but her intellect was somewhere else. She couldn’t shake the feeling that she was standing on the edge of a slope, almost diving into the unknown. As the evening wore on, Sebastian at last pulled her aside, his expression genuine. “We require talking.” Lila took after him to a calm corner of the room, her heart dashing. “What is it?” “The contract,” Sebastian said, his voice mooding. “There’s something you require to know.” Lila’s stomach dropped. “What do you mean?” Sebastian faltered for a minute, some time recently proceeding. I’ve been thinking…about terms. There are almost no individual relationships. I need to make beyond any doubt you get what that means. Lila gestured, her throat dry. I do. We’re not going to be…together. “Exactly,” Sebastian said, his eyes locking onto hers. But there’s more. We require persuading my granddad that this marriage is genuine. That implies we’ll have to…appear near, indeed if we’re not. Lila felt a chill run down her spine. She knew this was portion of the bargain, but hearing it spelled out so doubtlessly made it all the more genuine. “I understand,” she whispered. “Good,” Sebastian said, his tone softening somewhat. We’ll get through this, Lila. Fair remember it’s all business. Lila gestured, but profoundly down, she couldn’t shake the feeling that this was the start of something much more complicated than she had anticipated. The night ended with Sebastian escorting her to the car, his hand resting softly on the little side of her back. It was a slight motion, but it sent a shudder down her spine. She couldn’t offer assistance but ponder what the future held, whether this marriage would genuinely be a fair course of action or if it would end up something more. As the car pulled away from the gathering, Lila gazed out the window, her intellect hustling. She had made her choice, and there was no turning back presently. The contract was marked already. As the car pulled away from the gathering, Lila gazed out the window, her intellect dashing. She had made her choice, and there was no turning back presently. The contract was marked, the promises were traded, and she was presently Mrs. Sebastian Klein, if it were in name. But as the city lights were obscured by were, she couldn’t shake the feeling that she had ventured into a world distant past anything she had ever known, a world where the stakes were tall, and the rules were composed in imperceptible ink.
