Chapter 24I wasn't looking for anything fancy, but I did want a proper meal. I'd noticed a restaurant and lounge near the motel, so I headed there. The hostess, a pleasant, motherly looking woman in her late fifties, greeted me cheerfully, then gave me an inquisitive look as she noticed my bruised proboscis and slightly blackened eyes. The damage was already in the latter stages of healing, but unfortunately the purple and yellow hues were still noticeable. “Oh sweetheart, what on earth did you run into?” I smiled, gave her the same excuse I'd given our host at the Carroll B&B, then asked about the bar versus the restaurant menu.
