Chapter 49Ida was more than happy to let me drive. She briefly explained that she'd hitched a few rides in the beginning and had picked enough up to operate a modern-day car, but was very uncomfortable doing so. She confirmed Phil's theory regarding the motorcycle. She and Heinrich had used them quite a bit upon their arrival in the U.S., and she was perfectly comfortable with the older bike she'd procured in Alliance and subsequently ditched in Flourish.
“Ida, how do you know Heinrich isn't gone for good? As far as we know my great-grandfather buried him somewhere. But the whole experience—chasing Heinrich, running into Melaney, all of it—had left him pretty confused, and he couldn't really remember any details. He might have killed him and just couldn't remember.”
