Twenty-Three We were out in the middle of nowhere, as this was not a sanctioned race. My job was as a part of the medical staff in the very likely event of an accident. If an ambulance was called, the patient would be taken to a hospital and then, likely, to jail afterwards. I’d already been handed a fat wad of cash for my services.
