Fourteen Wanda was still out with the flu. That meant all the grunt work of management was thrust upon me. Top that off with the fact that we were a nurse down thanks to Charity. Her little performance brought the rest of the nursing staff to their knees as we were stretched thin with car accidents, a construction site injury, and one heart attack. Amidst the chaos, I kept my cool. We all did. We were trained nurses used to pulling more than our fair share and then having a bit more piled on. I was stuck behind a desk from morning to lunch, filling out paperwork, answering phones, triaging from behind a computer instead of out on the floor. I didn’t get to see a patient for the first three hours of my shift. None of it bothered me. I felt an overwhelming sense of fullness deep inside.
