Chapter 18
Yashiv slowly lowered his foot into the thin stream of water, dampening the echo off the stone walls. He set down the other foot and then took a soft step forward. Behind him, Wirat descended the rope ladder. Still staring down the well at them were Kaapo and Gilon. An expensive source in the city said that this particular well could access the palace’s cistern. Yashiv followed his gut and took the advice of their source, even though it could prove false. The only other option was trying to climb the gate surrounding the palace, which couldn’t be done at this time of day.
Yashiv moved a short distance away from the ladder, allowing the other men to descend. Once all stood beside him, he led the way forward.
