The field trip

578 Words
I wake up with a start, the noise of metal and glass crashing still ringing in my ears. I sigh and roll over to get ready for school. I go to check the table for the permission slip, there’s a lunch in a brown bag and a little cute pink note on top that reads ‘Gone to work, have a good day at school sweetie’. I put the lunch in my bag, grab the permission slip from underneath and the fee for the trip into my pocket. I grab a chocolate cookie from one of the containers. Suddenly remembering all the other desserts she had made. I scold myself a little as I walk out the door. I hate walking to this place everyday. It’s just depressing as this point. *I light a cigarette as I cross the street* At least today is a little different, we’re going on a field trip to some power plant thing to learn about how our cities power is generated. I don’t care much for it but it’s better than being in a class room. As I arrive I notice everyone putting their slip in a basket so I drop mine in as I walk by. Crazy how we just see other people do something so everyone just follows along like a herd of sheep. Sheeple, that’s what we are. I wish I could be different but how do I do that? How do leaders just become leaders, it must be natural.. Mr.Banners voice cuts into my thoughts “Hello class, I’m sure all of you know we’re going on a trip today. Josh and Koi, you two know you’ll be staying back with Mrs.Vire..” “Or we can just go home because this is pointless” Koi pipes in sarcasticly. Some of the class erupts into laughter. “Okay class that’s enough, Koi, take a walk down to the principals office please. The rest of us can load into the bus at the front of the building, please remember to bring anything you’ll need.” Mr. Banner finished, dismissing us as he grabs items for the field trip. Everyone starts to file out so I do as well. I can’t help but think of sheep again as we all walk to the bus in a “herd”. I grab a seat to myself and pop my ear buds in, let’s hope this field trip isn’t the most boring thing ever. I see Mr. Banner giving some sort of instructions but I don’t pay much attention. I stare out the window as we begin moving. There’s not much in this city. It’s very small and boring, it’s no wonder our field trips are the same. I watch as buildings pass by all a blur. It’s a nice day, and the drive to the power plant isn’t too far. As I’m looking around I notice something going on at the plant. It’s… glowing?.. What the hell is going on!? Our bus driver seems to have noticed as well because the bus has stopped along with cars surrounding us. My mind is racing and more kids start to notice and panic as well. “Everyone please stay calm and stay seated. Everything will be okay.” Says Mr.Banner. Thats when it happens.. a huge explosion goes off that sends everyone into a blind panic. The last thing I remember is hearing a deafening explosion and then everything goes black...
