1001 Words
Lily had graduated from college two years ago and finding a job has become the biggest quest of her life. Her friend Amber got a job few months after graduation and things has been working out for her, Lily on the other hand, not so much, she felt like the world was moving forward but without her in it. She had submitted her résume to literally every company in New York, she always thought New York was the city of possibilities but she was really starting to think otherwise, she might never get a job and just grow old, broke and living in an apartment where only Amber paid the rent and would eventually be kicked out, she hoped not. She dragged her leg through the corridor leading to her apartment, today had gone by like every other day, she was exhausted. She opened the door and was greeted by Luna, her cat. Hey missy, Lily said as she picked her up, meooowww, Luna purred as she curled herself on Lily's hands. Lily walked into her apartment and shut the door, she dropped Luna on the couch and walked into her room, stripped off all her clothes and got in the bathroom to have a hot shower that she desperately needed. She was getting dressed in her night wear when she heard the door opened and slammed shut, Amber was back. Hey Ambs, Lily called out as she walked in to the kitchen to look for something to eat, she was starving, hey Lils, how'd today go?, Amber asked, same old, same old Lily answered from the kitchen, I'm sorry Lils, I really wish I could help but Sasha says there's no open spot, maybe I could give one of the intern a hard time and she'd just resign, Amber said smiling, Ambs darling, I love you but please don't make someone quit their job cause of me, I'll be fine, I promise, Lily said as she walked out of the kitchen and sat on the couch next to Amber, you know I would do literally anything for you, even if it means being an evil coworker, Amber said as she gently pressed her shoulder, I know Ambs, I know, anyhow enough about me, how was work today?, Lily asked, oh good, we finally closed the deal with the Peterson Industry, I'm so happy, all those long nights at the office finally paid off, wow Ambs, I'm so happy for you, I know how much you've worked on that project, thanks Lils, Amber said smiling, so what's for dinner, Amber asked, leftover pizza and cheese bread Lily answered, oh such delicacies, Amber said laughing, yea, a treat to remember, Lily said laughing as well. The next morning Lily woke up a bit late, she hurried out of the house without getting breakfast, after stopping by three companies and doing an interview for an entertainment company that's clearly not gonna hire her, Lily dragged her body along the side walk, it was past one in the afternoon and she was beyond starving, she felt dizzy, she looked across the road and saw a cafe with pastries lined up in the show-glass, she immediately felt her stomach growl, she looked at traffic sign and it was red, meaning she could cross, she had only gone halfway when cars started moving, the traffic sign had turned green, she tried walking but cars kept moving, she turned and there was a car literally about to hit her, it stops just an inch from her, she collapsed to the ground feeling like the world was going silent, she tried blinking her eyes afraid if she let them close, she might just pass away, thoughts kept running through her head "oh no, I can't die now, I'm too young to die, I haven't even done anything, I haven't achieved anything" she thought in her mind. Miss, hey are you okay, she blinked, she thought she had died and gone to heaven. Standing above her was a beautiful man, if men could be beautiful, he definitely was, he looked neat and sharp, he wore a black suit and his hair was neatly combed back, his jawline looked sharp, she was sure they could slice an apple, his eyes, those blue piercing gaze, she could drown in them and his lips were as pink as strawberry, he looked heavenly, she didn't know how long she had been staring, the man was waving his hand in front of her and saying something, she couldn't hear, she tried keeping her eyes open but failed, she didn't have the strength to hold them anymore, they fell and her mind went silent. Lily opened her eyes, she was on a bed, she looked around the room, she was in the hospital, she wondered how she got there, the door opened, a nurse walked in, hi, glad to see that you're up, I'm nurse Ivy, you fainted cause of stress and poor nutrition, you haven't been taking care of yourself she said, yeah, I've had a pretty stressful week, Lily said, I'm sorry but who brought me here, a young man, he said his driver almost hit you and you fainted so he rushed you here immediately, he left though but don't worry, he paid your hospital bills, so you'll be discharged soon nurse Ivy replied, oh, too bad I didn't get to thank him Lily said, well get some rest, once it's time for you to go home, I'll let you know nurse Ivy said as she walked out leaving Lily wondering, she remembered his face a little, she really wished she could have seen him again. She quickly fell asleep after some time. Hey Lily, wake up, it's time to go home, Lily opened her eyes, is there anyone we can call to come pick you up nurse Ivy asked, oh it's fine, I'll just take a cab home Lily said, alright then, she grabbed her things and took a cab home.
