Lily walked into her apartment and Amber was standing there with her phone to her ear looking stressed, oh my gosh Lily, where the hell have you been, I've been worried nonstop, kept calling your line but your phone wasn't going through, Amber said in one breath. I'm sorry Ambs, I was in the hospital, I fainted and almost got hit by a car, Lily said, OH MY GOD, are you okay, s**t I didn't know, why wasn't I called, I'm your emergency contact, Amber said looking more stressed, I'm good Ambs, calm down, my phone died, it's just poor nutrition, they probably thought it wasn't serious that's why you weren't called, I'm alright though just hungry, oh Lils, I'm so sorry and I was yelling at you, let's get you something to eat first, Amber walked into the kitchen and brought out a bag, I got us shrimps spaghetti on my way back from work, she handed Lily a plate, here eat, seriously you need to take care of yourself properly and start eating well, what am I gonna do if something bad happens to you, Amber said looking concerned, I'm fine Ambs and yeah, I'll start taking proper care of myself, Lily said, good, no job hunting for you tomorrow, you're gonna stay home and rest okay, Amber said looking fierce, yes mom, Lily said laughing, they both laughed as they ate. The next morning, Lily woke up feeling good, she had slept in and she felt so relieved, she saw a note on her desk "hey sleepy head, didn't wanna wake you so I'll write you a note instead, don't leave this house, I made you soup, eat and get some rest, okay baby, mama loves you" Lily smiled, Amber is literally the sweetest human being ever, she thought to herself, she and Amber had been friends since elementary school and they went to the same college, they've had their ups and downs but they remained best friends, they're practically sisters. Lily got up, had her bath, went to the kitchen and served some soup, she sat on the couch, Luna jumped on her lap, snuggling herself to her, hey missy, Lily said as she ran her hands through her fur, she turned on the TV and ate her soup. Lily fell asleep shortly after, she woke up to the sound of her phone ringing, it was Amber, hey Ambs, she said sleepily as she answered the call, hey Lils, you sound tired, were you sleeping, oh my gosh did I wake you up, Ambs, breathe love, Lily said chuckling, I was asleep but I'm awake now, it's fine, oh ok, I'm sorry for waking you up, just wanted to see how you're doing, Amber said, it's fine Ambs and I'm alright, ate the delicious soup you made, that was all the treatment I needed, oh stop, you know I'm a terrible cook, you don't have to lie to me, Amber said, Lily laughed, how's work going, it's alright, just trying to get by the day, what do you want for dinner, so I'll pick something up on my way home, awwn Ambs, you're spoiling me, I should get sick often, Lily replied smiling, then you'll have to eat my terrible soup, Amber said with a grin, a small price to pay, Lily said, ummm for dinner, can we do shrimp pasta from that Chinese place, oh my gosh, Lils, we had shrimp spaghetti last night, you're gonna get a shrimp disease or something, Amber said, they both laughed, I can't help it, I really like shrimp, okay fine, how about Mac and cheese, very well, your wish is my command my lady, Amber said with an accent, they laughed, after talking for a while, Amber had to go back to work, they said their goodbyes and hung up the call. Lily looked around the apartment feeling bored, she grabbed her phone and popped into her i********: to watch funny reels, at least that'll keep her busy and entertained she thought to herself. The next day, Lily was feeling much better, she got ready and grabbed her documents, paying no attention to Amber's pleas for her to stay home and rest, I'll be fine, Ambs, I promise and I'll grab something to eat before starting okay, Amber finally gave in, they both left the house together, Amber took a cab to work and Lily stopped at a cafe to get something to eat. After eating, Lily started her job hunting, she dropped her CV at a couple stops and even interviewed for a barista spot but she wasn't experienced in making coffee and they needed someone already trained, she stood in front of a building, "Alexander McQueen Enterprise". This was her last stop for the day. She contemplated going in, Alexander McQueen Enterprise is one of the top companies in the city and they don't just hire anyone, she wasn't even sure why she's here, they only employ people who graduated from top colleges and you need to have a connection to get it, she had really ran out of options, she hoped the universe would smile at her and she could at least get a position, even if it were just to deliver copies or make photocopies, she would be glad, she desperately needed a job and she couldn't call her dad for money anymore, she's a grown ass woman, she's trying to be independent even though she basically depends on Amber most times. She breathe a sigh of determination, plastered a smile on her face and walked in, everywhere was packed with people, she walked to the elevator, pressed the button and waited for a few seconds before it opened, she got in, after a couple of seconds, she was standing on the floor of what felt like a cemetery, everywhere was quiet, everyone sat at their various desk doing their assigned jobs. The scenery looked so professional, she looked around and saw the receptionist at a corner desk with a sign that says "receptionist", she walked up to her smiling. Hi, she said trying not to look nervous, the lady behind the desk looked up at her without so much as an expression, she went to what she was doing, sorry to disturb you, I was just wondering if there's any vacant position, if you guys need a set of extra hands, Lily said, hoping the lady would say yes but her reply came rather expected, we're not hiring she said in a tone that suggests she wasn't trying to continue the conversation, Lily's hope fell flat but she sought of saw it coming, what was she expecting, like she could just walk in here and be handed a job, she tried one last time so that at least it would be, that she did do her best, how about I drop my documents with you and you can just let me know when there's any vacant spot, Lily said with a bright smile, it hurt her jaw, the lady looked at her annoyed like she was going to say something but decided not, okay, leave them there she said and immediately turned her attention back to her laptop, Lily felt a glimpse of hope, oh ok, thank you very much, she adjusted the papers, kept them properly in a file and placed them on the desk, thank you so much, Lily said once again hoping her continuous gratitude would change her mind, the lady didn't say anything, Lily took that as her sign to leave, she walked back to the elevator and pressed the button, she was standing there waiting for the elevator doors to open and praying someone should quit so she could be called in. The doors opened and it wasn't empty, the face she saw made her heart skip a beat.
