Lexi checked her phone again. Amy had just called a few moments ago to ask about Human souls. Lexi could only imagine the trouble her little sister was getting into. Her curiosity was Amy’s biggest weakness. But considering the girl had spent most of her life in a cave, curiosity was the least of her social problems. She just hoped Any didn’t need her help. It was loud in the club. Electronic music blasted so loudly that she was never able to hear her phone ringing. The DJ for that night was obsessed with American Rap music. If Lexi heard one more Cardi B song, she was going to scream. She should have stayed at the demon bar with Sadie. At Least she wouldn't have to deal with so many brightly coloured Auras. The dim lighting helped filter out some of it. But whenever a human came to the bar, she'd see bright hazed of light. It was like standing in a rainbow. Sighing, Lexi put her phone back under the bar and took the drink order of the guy who’d been trying to get her attention. “Back to work.” She mumbled, smiling a fake smile, and pushed out her breasts. Kynan and Amy walked to Lexi's place unnoticed. The sun had set which meant most people were inside eating dinner or heading to one of the many bars in the area. The people that were still on the street didn't notice them, thanks to a handy little device in Kynan's pocket that he had activated when they left the park. Despite their situation the girl still looked around in amazement. She watched cars, studied people, and the number of times she nearly tripped because she'd been distracted by artwork and had tried to take a picture was just annoying. Kynan was glad he was taking her home. She'd never get there on her own. What was her sister thinking letting her walk around the city by herself? It was a wonder she hadn't been more seriously hurt by something. Or mugged. The girl really did look like a total space case. Finally they made it to her sister's apartment building. Lexi lived on the third floor but luckily for Amy’s ankle, there was an elevator. The small space of the elevator normally wouldn't have affected Amy but the large male beside her defiantly made it seem too small and claustrophobic. He oozed power and s*x, making every one of her cells tingle. Amy wanted to grab him and kiss him until they were both breathless and her hair was a mess. She'd seen it happen so many times on TV. Lexi insisted that wasn't real life behavior, but Amy wanted to do it anyway. The ride up seemed so long but at the same time not nearly long enough. When the doors whooshed open and they stepped out, she briefly regretted not acting on her earlier impulses. She unlocked the door with the key, just like Lexi had shown her, and let Kynan into her sister's apartment. "Nice place." Kynan said, taking in the open living space and large modern kitchen. "Lexi's really pretty so sometimes people just give her stuff." Kynan herd the note of jealousy in her voice. "Whoa!" Kynan admired the large flat screen TV, surround sound and several gaming systems. She didn't have a DVD player, she didn't need one but she sure had a lot of DVDs stacked on shelves either side of the TV unit. "I bet she didn't get this for free." "Actually most of it was given to her." Kynan gave her a startled look. "Your sister must be a super model." He said recalling the height of human beauty standards for this region. Amy grimaced. It was clear she was jealous of her sister's looks. "I mean I haven't met her. But if she looks anything like you, then I can see why she'd have admirers." Her eyes widened in surprise before narrowing in suspicion. She didn't look like she believed him one bit. "I should probably take a look at your side." She stepped towards him completely forgetting her ankle and stumbled into the wall. "s**t!" Kynan reached out to steady her. "I think I should take a look at you. That ankle could be broken." "It's not broken." She insisted. He wrapped a supportive arm around her waist and helped her to the squishy red lounge anyway. He sat her down and took a seat on the coffee table in front of her. Kynan took her ankle in his hands and lifted it onto his knee. She didn't argue as he slowly removed her shoe and began to stroke it through the black pantihose she was wearing. "You should probably take these off so I can check for any bruises." He felt her pulse sky rocket under his fingers. He looked up to see the look of pure panic on her face. "Don't worry. I have no intention of making you do anything you don't want to do." He couldn't help the suggestive undertone in his voice. He actually wouldn't mind sleeping with this strange woman. He found that the odd ones tended to be wild in bed. "It's not you. I have birth marks." She explained. "I hate them. And I'd rather not show them to anyone." Amy blushed. Kynan resumed stroking her thorough the soft opaque fabric. His fingers gently followed the curve of her foot checking for swelling and pain. "It's okay. There's not a lot of swelling and you seem to be able to move it." He pinched her big toe. "Ouch!" She teased actually smiling. "And you can feel it alright. I'll still put some ice on it though." She smiled appreciatively as he left her foot resting on the table while he went into the kitchen to grab ice from the freezer. He wrapped it in a tea towel on the bench and brought it back to her. Kynan could tell that under her Shyness the woman was amused. He sat back down on the coffee table and picked up her foot to cradle the ice to her ankle. The white dress hugged her body showing off a figure with small but nice breasts and a waist that pulled in a little before flaring into hips she probably didn't like. He wanted to be cradled against them. An image of himself shifting forward to wrap her legs around him flashed across his mind. "Thank you Mr... umm." "Kynan." He smiled, locking his eyes with hers. "Kynan." She said his name so sweetly that he felt a small tug deep inside his chest. "My name is Amy." "It's nice to meet you Amy." His hands felt so good on her leg. Every time he touched her, her skin tingled pleasantly. He looked like a big tough guy with his imposing height, black leather jacket and heavy boots. But his touch was gentle. She wondered how good his touch would feel on other parts of her body. His lips looked as though they were designed to kiss a woman senseless. And his eyes were so deep, a girl could get lost in them for hours. She wanted to straddle his lap and run her fingers through his hair while she tasted those lips. They looked so delicious, all of him did. Shocked, Amy pushed the uncharacteristic thoughts from her mind. Kynan looked at her with heated interest in his eyes. Like he knew what she'd been thinking about. Quickly she changed the subject. "Can you see ghosts Kynan?" Her change of topic threw him. But after seeing how short her attention span seemed to be, he shouldn't have been surprised. "Yes." He answered her question carefully. He was forbidden to reveal his true identity to a human. "I can see them. I saw one attached to that woman tonight." She almost looked saddened by it. "I think it killed her." "It did." He spoke without thinking and instantly regretted it. Amy's eyes shone with tears. He wanted them gone. "It probably would have killed me and that boy too if you hadn't come along." Kynan shrugged it off. "I've dealt with nastier ones than that before. But you seemed to do alright." Amy blushed. “My brothers taught, me how to fight. But I've never had to use it before." "How many brothers do you have?" "Four. But I have nine siblings all together. What about you?" Nine? That would have been a very full household to grow up in. "One of each. But we're only half siblings." "Oh. I'm sure you all get along though." It was hard for Amy to imagine being in a family that wasn't close. Her parents were still together after thirty years and ten children. "Not really." There was a large age gap between Kynan's siblings and himself. "I'm sorry to hear that." By the sound of her voice, she really meant it. "Don't be." There was silence again. "So are you some kind of ghost hunter? Like Sam and Dean?" "Who?" He asked confused. "You know, from that TV show. Do you go all over hunting ghosts and other baddies?" He laughed. He'd never heard anyone use the term "baddies" before but he supposed that was an okay explanation of his job. "I suppose you could say that's what I do." She beamed excitedly and he laughed with her. For a moment it felt good to be there with someone. Then he remembered who he was and why he had to leave. “I should go. Keep the ice on for a little while longer.” Amy frowned. Why did he want to leave? It had to be because of her. Had she said something wrong? “Why do you need to leave?” She asked. “At least let me take a look at that wound.” Kynan placed her foot on the table and rose to his feet.  “Don't worry.” He told her. “I'll go see my paramedic friend. Besides I don't want to impose on you any longer.” “You wouldn't be imposing.” She said way to quickly. “I mean... I'm new to this place. I don't have any friends here.” Human friends anyway. “Sorry Amy. But I really have to go.” She looked so disappointed. In truth women always looked that way when he left, but there was something different about Amy. It wasn't just his body she wanted, it was his company. Feeling an unnatural desire to sit back down beside her, Kynan left. When the door closed Amy felt a wave of loneliness. She was all alone in her sister's apartment. Her skin still hummed pleasantly from Kynan's touch. She figured that it was just static electricity thanks to the pantihose, but it still felt nice. Too bad he had to leave. Sighing at her own misfortune, She pulled her phone from the bag still slung over her chest and sent a text to her sister. Maybe Lexi would finish work soon and come home?   Kynan flashed to his home in the French country side. It was a small villa well out of the way of the Human population. The wound in his side had completely healed but he was still covered in blood. Kynan peeled off his clothes and stepped into the shower. As the warm water hit him, his thoughts drifted back to the strange woman and her camera. She was so curious and easily distracted. He hoped she'd be okay wondering around the city by herself. He scrubbed his face under the water. Why did he even care anyway? Sure she was sweet and adorable, and a member of the human population he had sworn to protect, but he shouldn't care what she did or what she got into. He couldn't interfere with her any more. But the pleading look she'd given him when he left, had burned itself into his memory. Her big sad lonely eyes held the most beautiful shades of blue he'd ever seen and the feel of her skin beneath his touch had sent waves of lust through him. That had to be why she was so present in his mind. Amy was gorgeous with curves perfect for a man's hands. He'd never seen red hair that dark before, that hadn't come in a bottle. But the absence of the dye smell and all those golden highlights screamed natural colour. She wore her make-up a little heavy, but then he liked his women without it. How were you meant to gage a woman's emotions when she hid her blush or painted one on? Kynan turned the water off and reached for a towel. It didn't matter how tempting Amy was, she was human and off limits to the likes of him.
