Veil of Shadows

442 Words
The next morning, slipped by uneventfully, and as the sun dipped below the horizon, night fell. The air was heavy with tension as the mafia gang arrived to take Saidi. They bound her hands and blindfolded her, leading her away with little ceremony. Sofia, standing resolute, removed the blindfold just as they ushered Saidi into a sleek black car. The vehicle’s engine roared to life, and within moments, it disappeared into the darkness. Unbeknownst to the gang, Daniel and Mia were hidden nearby, observing every move. Their hearts raced, but Daniel’s especially seemed to falter as he watched Saidi being taken away. A wave of helplessness and worry washed over him, though his determined gaze remained fixed on the car until it vanished from sight. In the car, they blindfolded Saidi once again. Though unable to see, her mind was sharp and focused. She clung to one certainty. When they reached their destination, she would face the mafia boss. Her sharp ears caught snippets of the guards’ hushed conversation, confirming her suspicions as the vehicle slowed to a stop. When they arrived, Saidi felt the heavy presence of authority surrounding her. She deduced that she was standing before the boss himself, though the blindfold still obscured her vision. Suddenly, a sharp command cut through the air. “Remove her blindfold,” the boss ordered. As the fabric was lifted from her eyes, she blinked against the sudden brightness and took in the man before her. He was tall, with a commanding presence and an undeniable charisma. He was a strikingly handsome figure who exudes power. “I’m Dominic Paul Russo,” he said, his voice smooth but laced with menace. “I’ve heard you’re strong, but I doubt you’re stronger than me.” Saidi’s confidence didn’t waver for a second. She met his gaze and replied evenly, “With time, you’ll realize just how strong I am. And as for intelligence, those who think themselves the smartest often prove to be the biggest fools.” A flicker of anger crossed Dominic’s face at her defiance. Without another word, he gestured to the guards. “Take her away,” he commanded coldly. “Make her talk. Torture her until she gives us everything about the chemical.” The guards grabbed her roughly and dragged her from the room, but Saidi’s expression remained defiant. She was determined to endure whatever came next. The guards mercilessly tortured Saidi, leaving her body battered and bloodied. Crimson drops fell steadily from her wounds, painting the cold floor beneath her. Yet, despite the unbearable pain, she remained resolute, her unwavering determination refusing to betray the secret they sought.
