They quickly began preparing to leave. Once ready, they slipped out of the hotel and drove off in the car.
During the ride, Saidi stayed unusually quiet, her mind fixated on the picture she had seen in Daniel’s wallet. Daniel, noticing her silence, tried to lighten the mood with some casual chatter, but it only seemed to irk her further.
Finally, unable to hold back, she asked, “Do you always annoy your girlfriend like this?”
Daniel turned to her, surprised. “Girlfriend? I don’t have a girlfriend.”
Saidi felt an unexplainable sense of relief but kept her face neutral. “Then whose picture is that in your wallet?” she asked after a moment.
Daniel chuckled, shaking his head. “That’s my mother,” he asked, amusement flickering in his eyes. “But if it were my girlfriend, would you be jealous?”
She scoffed, quickly masking her surprise. “No way,” she replied, turning away as her cheeks heated.
On the way, Daniel explained that the photograph was of his mother during her younger years.
As Saidi drove the car, he remarked, “You really know how to handle speed.”
The journey passed quickly as they chatted, and soon they arrived at Agent Dark’s home.
Agent Dark, who was Saidi’s best friend, greeted her warmly. They performed their special handshake before hugging each other.
Saidi introduced Daniel, and Agent Dark welcomed them inside, showing them to their room.
Exhausted, Saidi collapsed onto the bed, her thoughts drifting to Daniel. A faint blush crept onto her face as she hid it behind a pillow.
