Lisa thought she was done for. When she opened her eyes and saw a bright white light, she believed she had arrived in heaven.
But the next moment, a magnified face appeared before her, shining with gold-rimmed glasses.
She was so startled that she sat up abruptly.
The movement tugged at her wound, causing a sharp pain.
Instinctively, Lisa reached for her cheek, but all she felt was a thick layer of gauze.
In an instant, despair tore through her fragile heart.
James didn't even love a whole, healthy her. If she were disfigured, wouldn't she be left with absolutely nothing?
"Your test results will be available this afternoon, and I'll come find you then," the doctor said.
"Wait, Doctor!" Lisa anxiously grabbed onto William's sleeve. "Can you let me see myself in a mirror? Is my face severely damaged? Can it ever be restored?"
"Don't be so pessimistic. I'll let you see once we remove the bandages."
Suddenly, the hospital room's door swung open, and James appeared in the doorway. His gaze swept over the two people in front of him, pausing for a second on Lisa's hand before averting his eyes. He fixed his gaze on William's face and raised an eyebrow.
"Why are you here?"
"So, you're the patient's family member." William's expression turned cold. "The patient shouldn't be disturbed. If you have anything to say, finish it quickly, and I'll wait for you outside."
With that, William turned and walked away without looking back.
In the vast hospital room, only Lisa and James remained.
He walked straight up to her and placed a bank card on the table. "Here's 700,000 dollars. 600,000 for repaying debts, and the remaining 100,000 for your medical expenses. If it's not enough, you can ask me for more. Olivia didn't do this on purpose. I hope you can be more magnanimous and not hold it against her."
He said it so casually.
Lisa couldn't help but sneer, "You're so generous, James, buying our love with 700,000 dollars."
"You also stabbed her. She's still lying in bed now. She doesn't owe you anything."
"Then what about you?" Lisa's eyes welled up with tears in an instant. "Now that I'm disfigured, James, does that mean you owe me nothing?"
The man in front of her, for once, fell into a rare silence and didn't speak for a long time.
Lisa silently shed tears, knowing full well that salty tears would sting her wounds, but she couldn't stop them from flowing.
"I owe you. I will repay you."
James stood up, "Tomorrow, I'll arrange for you to go abroad for the best treatment. You can make any demands you want, except to be by your side again. Also, Olivia is pregnant. She risked her life to save this child. I hope you won't appear before us again and won't agitate her."
With that, James turned and left the hospital room, paying no heed to Lisa calling his name repeatedly.
As he closed the door behind him, even though he should have felt relieved, an inexplicable heaviness filled his heart.
"If I were Lisa, that knife should not have been thrust into Olivia," a low, deep voice suddenly came from nearby. William appeared like a lurking cobra in the darkness, "She should have stabbed you, you bastard!"
James chuckled self-deprecatingly. "Two years apart, and you still hate me so much, brother. But now that you've left the Arthur family, you have no right to control me. Take care of yourself."
William didn't say a word, just watched as James walked away with a dark expression.
