Damien POV
After leaving that very unsatisfying meeting at the edge of Alpha Jake’s territory, we get back into the car and sit for a moment.
“What do you think?” My Beta, Ethan, asked once we were alone.
I had only ever met that Alpha in passing before. This had been our first conversation together. There was something familiar about him, a sense that got larger the longer we talked, like he reminded me of someone.
“Let’s rule them out, for now,” I said, starting the car and putting it in gear. Beside me Ethan pulled out his phone where he had the list of places we’d already checked, and where we still needed to go. He marked this pack as low priority.
And yet - something stopped me.
“Actually…let’s keep a close eye on them,” I said. “Discreetly, of course.”
Ethan raised an eyebrow
