Amelia’s POV
“I’ll take you home,” Jake said, his arms till protectively around my waist.
“No,” I said.
His enforcers had already made Damien’s men leave the property. The danger had passed.
“I really want to go to work,” I said.
Jake looked at me with something between wonder and awe. “You aren’t frightened?”
I was, but that wouldn’t change whether I was at his estate or here at the hospital. Besides, Damien wasn’t one who would try the same trick twice. And right now, when he didn’t fully now that his previous plan hadn’t succeeded… this was the safest time for me.
“Alright,” Jake said. “But I’m going to leave some enforcers here in the lobby and at the back entrance. If you even so much as feel unsafe, find one of them. Alright? Call me when you want to leave and I will be here.”
