Amelia’s POV
Healer Eve was sitting behind her desk when I reached the doorway to her office. Her door was opened, but I still knocked on the door.
She looked up from the paperwork she had been reviewing on her desktop. There was a pen in her hand. She lowered it.
“Amelia? You are here early.”
“I wanted to speak to you,” I said. “And to give you this.” I held up the folded resignation letter. I had signed it this morning, before Jake drove me here. Not wanting him to waste his time waiting, I had pretended everything was fine. I’d find another way home.
Cara was standing behind me in the hallway. She was in earshot of everything, but I knew, as always, she wouldn’t say a word. I wondered if she knew what I had been planning, just from being so observant.
