Chapter Two: The painful rejection

Ida's POV A tingly electrifying sensation swept over me as Aiden slowly broke that kiss and I exhaled sharply, letting out the air I was holding in. His eyes glowed as he smiled at me. “You're mine Ida and tonight, the whole world will know.” He uttered, authoritatively. I wanted to argue with him but decided against it, for the first time ever-my dormant wolf was aroused, she was brought to life, fully. He brought her to life. “Let's go to the party, this will be official-you’re mine.” I couldn't say a word and just did as he said. We both walked back to the party, hand-in-hand and he excused himself to attend to some important pack business. Kathy walked up to me. Reluctantly and flustered, I went with her and she alongside her little cohort of flashy girls wouldn't stop talking and praising me. “Here, have a drink.” Kathy offered. “Sorry, I don't drink.” I declined, politely. She chuckled then tut. “What do you mean you don't drink? Today's the last day of high school, prom night, you're an adult now and you don't want to forget it.” She persuaded me. After much persuasion, I agreed and drank , afterwards, they made me drink shot after shot of tequila and I had no choice at that point since I was overwhelmed by the events of the night. We went to the dance floor and I danced like never before, happy for no reason whatsoever. They danced with me and we laughed and laughed. “What the hell do you think you're doing?” A too familiar voice thundered. The music stopped instantly and though I was tipsy, I could see who it was. The atmosphere became tense as she walked majestically to the floor, all eyes on her. She flipped her blonde silky hair and her lips twitched with disgust as she halted in front of me. “Ida.” She greeted, insultingly. “Nice to see you too, Gwen.” I reciprocated the pleasantries. “Who let you in?” She retorted, eyes washing over me. “I see you're wearing a dress way above your payroll, did you sleep with some disgusting old man to get this?” She added. “Wha-what is wro-wro-wrong with you!” I stammered, getting a bit offended. She scoffed and circled me like an eagle would, to its prey. “You know Cousin, I have to look out for you especially as you're a semi-imbecile.” Feeling insulted, I sharply turned around to face her but before I could speak, she grabbed a handful of the arm of my dress and tore it off and I gasped, shocked. “You don't deserve to be here.” She declared. Kathy stepped forward, annoyed. “What the hell do you think you're doing Gwen?” She thundered. Gwen was flabbergasted by this action following that she was good friends with Kathy. Kathy was standing up for me. “Kathy, you don't ha-have to-” I stuttered but she shut me up. “Of course I will! Just because she isn't as popular as you doesn't make her less human Gwen!” Kathy barked and Gwen scoffed but I smiled weakly, it was the first time someone was standing up for me though I was suspicious of the entire thing. “If you want to embarrass or tear off her dress….” Kathy's words trailed off as she turned to face me. She touched my shoulders, lovingly. “Are you fine?” She asked, calmly. I nodded, embarrassed. She clicked her tongue then suddenly ripped off the other arm and I was more than just flabbergasted by the sudden turn of events. “Then you should do it properly.” Kathy added then smirked, standing beside Gwen who wore a satisfactory look on her face. In the blink of an eye, Kathy's friends all took rounds tearing off a portion of the dress I wore. “Pppppplease, stttop!” I stammered, tears rolling down my face. No one offered to help me but instead they all laughed at me from afar and I felt like running away. I felt bare and naked, embarrassed and harassed at the same time. “Here, let me help.” Gwen offered and immediately emptied a glass of water on me. Coincidentally, the water entered my eyes and the lenses fell out. I couldn't see a thing so I squatted, patting the floor with my hands, frantically searching for them while they mock and laugh at me. “What the hell do you all think you're doing?” A voice thundered and the place went dead silent. Through my blurred vision, I saw Aiden walk in, red-faced. “Aiden darling…” Gwen drawled but Aiden walked past her and squatted before me. “Are you alright?” He asked, placing his jacket on me. I shook my head and he embraced me shortly then growled. “Who the hell did this to my mate?” There was silence and then Gwen snickered. “Aiden, you can't be serious that Ida is your mate? I know you're kind and-” “You did this?” He interjected. “Aiden she-” “Get out!” He barked. “What!” “Did I stutter Gwen? Get out and everyone of you as well Kathy, anyone who dares to bully my mate will pay heftily for it so leave before I decapitate you.” Aiden growled. He walked up to me and handed over a new pair of glasses to me, helped me wear them then carried me; bridal style. I could see properly and Gwen threw me dirty looks and daggers but I clung to Aiden as he carried me past them. “Aiden! How can you choose that four eyed girl!” Gwen shouted. Aiden looked at me with love in his eyes and smiled. “Are you okay?” He whispered and I nodded, shyly. He walked back to the heart of the party where everyone would see us. “I have an announcement to make!” He announced with a loud voice. I inhaled deeply, my heart bursting with emotions. “As I have promised regarding this party, I will be showing my mate to the entire world and also, the other part of the bargain.” I watched him as he smiled at me encouragingly. He leaned in for a kiss and I closed my eyes, anticipating it but yelped as I felt myself fall to the hard floor beneath. Everyone laughed and I looked up to see Aiden look at me with a disgusted expression. “Wha-what are you doing?” I asked, shakily. Gwen walked majestically to us. “You didn't think he was going to choose you did you?” I looked at Aiden for an explanation. “As per tradition and my promise to you all, Aiden has humiliated the most hated person in school as a parting gift to you all.” Gwen announced and everyone clapped. “Yo-you said you lo-lo-love me!” I uttered, my heart breaking. Aiden scoffed and sneered at me then kissed Gwen fully on the lips. “I am your mate!” I yelled, out of desperation and frustration. Aiden laughed. “You think I'll love someone like you? Have you seen yourself? You're blind as a bat and why would I torment my subjects by making a stammerer their Luna? You're a joke!” Laughter resonated and my heart broke into pieces. “You were a bet, nothing more.” Aiden added then he turned and faced Gwen. “Her presence has ruined this atmosphere, shall we move to the next location?” I was angry as it dawned on me that it was all a lie. The attention, the love and care, I was set up for utter humiliation! As Aiden made to leave with Gwen, I yelled after him ‘We’re mates! I am your mate!’ “Save what's left of your dignity Ida, everyone knows you're a wolfless werewolf, seventeen and forgotten by the goddess herself!” He retorted. “The kiss was real, you-kissed me!” I retorted. He sighed then walked up to me. “If you insist, I Aiden Lockhart of the Blackwood Pack, reject you, Ida as my mate!” He declared, harshly then walked away, arm intertwined with Gwens’ her eyes mocking me.
