Aiden's POV
Guilt gripped at my heart, threatening to tear it apart as I left Ida writhing in pain on the ground without looking back. As the party raged on and Gwen spoke to me, I felt suffocated and forced a smile on my face.
My chest tightened and I felt immense pain. Ida is my mate, I've known the moment I set eyes on her two years ago. The goddess blessed our pack to get our wolves at an early age and mine was at age fifteen as I was an alpha.
The first time I set eyes on Ida, my wolf leapt for joy and announced our bond but I kept it to myself, not wanting to associate with her especially since Gwen is my girlfriend and I love her wholeheartedly.
It was almost impossible to kill my desire for Ida and when I kissed her, it was heavenly and I had to control my wolf before he pounced on and claimed her.
Gwen wanted Ida to be humiliated and embarrassed which wasn't pleasant but I had to agree, Ida is partially blind and the least beautiful, she was a pathetic excuse of a mate yet my wolf went berserk as we hurt her.
The party was fun but hurtful as I kept remembering Ida's face when I rejected and humiliated her. The whole night, I felt her excruciating pain and I nearly went insane as the pain became overwhelming.
She charged at me in the middle of the party, I could barely recognize her. She looked haggard and miserable, my heart broke into pieces seeing her in that state, she adjusted her glasses uncomfortably and her hands shook.
“Do you really mean what you said to me?” Her shaky voice questioned.
“What are you doing?” I asked, hiding my panic.
“You said you loved me Aiden, we're mates. I am your mate and you're mine. I mean, did you really reject me?” She asked, her voice becoming unstable.
I shook my head and tut. “Leave, before I call the guards.”
“You were nice to me in school, you're the only one who's nice to me and for what? Just to embarrass me publicly? Did you have to break me?” She asked, her voice laced with pure emotions as she stuttered.
“You really think I'd have a freak as my Luna? We know you're beneath me Ida, don't be stupid.” I threw at her, somehow, it took all my mental prowess to do it.
“You'll regret this Aiden, you shouldn't have done this to me, you're-”
I cut her off, her words piercing my heart and conscience. “Leave Ida, now!” I growled.
She looked at me one last time, with no sign of life in her eyes, only pain and misery. She turned around and left and I was too flustered to make out the route she took. I resumed the party, pushing all thoughts of her aside.
That night, I couldn't sleep.
The bond was still there hence I shared her emotions. Secretly, I deployed private investigators to spy on her well-being but she suddenly disappeared and no one knows where she went.
A week later, the bond got disconnected, I could neither feel her nor connect with her. All ties were severed. Though it brought me immense joy to focus on my future and Gwen, I still worry about Ida, guilty of ruining her.
**************************
“Are you sure you don't want to sit this one out?” I asked Gwen for the umpteenth time that morning.
She scoffed softly as flipped her hair dramatically. “Are you kidding me?”
“It's not just any meeting Gwen, I'll be meeting with the Lycan King, for all I know it could be a set-up, I can't bear to see any harm come to you. If anything happens, I'd want you to be here, to rule in my stead.” I explained to her.
“Absolutely not, firstly; this is a peace treaty between both races and also an avenue to unite us by sealing it with a business deal.” She countered.
“I know, I just don't feel safe enoug-”
“Aiden, it's been five years and I'm still not your Luna, officially so the goddess forbids but if anything happens to you then Karev would be next in line not me.” She interjected.
I sighed resignedly. We've been arguing about her accompanying me to the closed party back and forth for days now and she did have a point. She leaned over and kissed me fully on the lips.
“Besides, I'm your woman, I need to be there.” She added.
“You know, we're not officially married because you had to go to school as well, you're not mediocre which makes you fit to be Luna, the bar is raised high.” I complimented her.
“So flaunt me Aiden, flaunt your woman.”
Eventually, I agreed to let her accompany me. The werewolf and Lycan race has been at loggerheads for centuries and we're in a power tussle in the business world with us lagging behind so I decided to be strategic about it.
When we arrived at the meeting which was organized in the form of a closed party, all eyes were on us because of course other powerful and influential alphas from all around the world were present and humans were among them, the wealthiest businessmen and women.
I spotted a few of my business associates and struck a conversation with them while Gwen stood beside me, being elegant, eloquent and charming.
“May I have your attention, ladies and gentlemen?” A firm yet calm voice called out.
We all focused our attention on the speaker who turned out to be Kael Darkhaven, the devil himself, dressed in his expensive tuxedo, wearing a grim smile that made even my wolf shiver in fear.
“May I offer a toast to us all, for the greatness that will be birthed from our union tonight.” He announced, politely.
We all raised our respective glass of champagne and toasted to it.
“Before I go any further I'll like to introduce you all to my backbone, the most important person in the room and frankly speaking, the only person I respect and fear, a business associate and more.” He started.
At this point, we were all not only shocked but expectant to see who it was.
“I thought Kael is reportedly intimidating and arrogant? Who's this person he speaks of with admiration in his eyes?” Gwen leaned in and asked me but I shrugged my shoulders in response, taking a sip of the champagne.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Miss Idalina Storm.” He announced, with a hint of excitement in his tone.
The room fell silent and only the clanging of heels could be heard. I focused on my champagne, wanting the party to end quickly and we got down to business.
“She's a beautiful woman.” Gwen whispered to me as the clanging suddenly stopped and I assumed the woman had halted.
Irritated, I tut as I wasn't the least interested. “I don't care abou-” I began to speak but the woman apparently had something to say.
“Hello everyone.” A sweet sonorous and assertive voice greeted me.
My nose caught a whiff of a stronger scent, one that my nostrils familiarized themselves with years ago and for five years, desperately sought after. Instantly, I lifted my head up and my wolf growled possessively in my head. ‘Ida!’ I subconsciously growled.
