📖 Chapter 1 – Code Name: Elif

375 Words
The school bell rang. Everyone seemed normal. Or at least, they looked normal. Girls rushed to the mirrors fixing their hair, boys leaned on desks scrolling through their phones. Laughter, whispers, gossip about clothes... Everything seemed just as it should be. But I wasn't supposed to be there. My glasses, my uniform, my seemingly ordinary backpack… They were all part of the disguise. My name isn’t Elif. I’m not a 17-year-old high school student. I’m Arya Yılmaz, codename "Sedef", a government agent. And I’m here because something is wrong with this school. The classroom door opened. Silence fell instantly. Emir Karaca. Literature teacher. 28 years old. Suspicious. There’s barely anything in his file — and that’s exactly what makes him dangerous. What’s written about him is incomplete. Like someone erased it on purpose. When he stepped into the classroom, all eyes were on him. But his were only on his notebook. Still, I could’ve sworn he looked at me — just for a second. Did he notice me? I picked up my pen and wrote in my journal, in small letters: > “He didn’t look at me directly, but I felt a chill. This man is definitely hiding something.” He didn’t lecture that day. Instead, he read a poem. From Cahit Zarifoğlu: > “To rise, You must first kneel.” The whole class looked bored. But I froze. Was there a message in that line? Or was I just paranoid? When the class ended, everyone left. Except me. And him. He stayed behind, doodling something on the board with his pen. Occasionally, he glanced at me. “You’re the new student, right?” he said. His voice was softer than I expected. I nodded. “Yes, sir. Elif Kaya.” Even my fake name felt real on my lips. “You keep a journal. That’s good. Do you like to write?” I swallowed. “I think so…” He smiled. But there was no warmth in that smile — just a familiar kind of loneliness. Maybe I wasn’t the only one feeling alone in this place. But maybe I had forgotten something. This man isn’t just suspicious… he might be dangerous. And I might be losing my heart to that danger.
