CHAPTER TEN

MAXWELL STERLING'S POV I stared at her. It was definitely her. The same girl who had bumped into me the other day and had the audacity to curse me out. The same girl who had grabbed my clothes and demanded that I pay for the damage. And now she was standing in my elevator as if nothing had happened. I couldn't believe it. I folded my arms across my chest. She looked nervous. Very nervous. Good. Maybe she finally realized who she was standing in front of. The elevator was unusually quiet. I glanced at her. She was standing in the corner, avoiding my eyes. I decided to break the silence. "Do you always enter elevators without looking?" She slowly raised her head. Our eyes met. For a moment, she said nothing. Then she frowned. "Wait..." She looked at me carefully. Then her eyes widened. "You!" I raised an eyebrow. "Me." She pointed at me. "You're that annoying man!" Pet was my trusted bodgaurd Pet who was standing beside me, immediately looked away. I could tell he was trying not to laugh. I stared at her in disbelief. "Annoying?" "Yes!" she replied. "You are the one who bumped into me." She gasped. "Excuse me? You bumped into me!" "I was standing still." "So?" I looked at her. "So how exactly did I bump into you while standing still?" She opened her mouth but no words came out. I almost smiled. Almost. Then the elevator suddenly stopped. She grabbed the railing. "What happened?" Ethan checked the panel. "We're between floors." Her eyes widened. "Are you serious?" I sighed. "Relax. It will start again." She looked at me suspiciously. "Are you sure?" "Yes." She folded her arms. "Because I really don't want to die in an elevator with you." I looked at her. "You won't." She nodded. "Good." Then she muttered under her breath, "At least I'll die knowing I tried to stay away from you." I heard her. Of course I did. I stared at her. She immediately looked away. For some strange reason, I found her irritating behavior amusing. That was unusual. Nobody spoke to me like this. Nobody dared. Yet this girl didn't seem to care who I was. And for some reason, I couldn't stop looking at her. AMELIA ROSE'S POV Why? Why did this man have to be here? Of all the elevators in this entire hospital, I had to enter the one containing him. I wanted to disappear. Then the elevator stopped. Great. Just great. I looked at the handsome stranger. He looked completely calm. How could someone look this calm when we were trapped inside an elevator? I glanced at the muscular man beside him. He was also calm. Were these people robots? I sighed. I needed to get out of here. I looked at the stranger again. "Do you work here?" He looked at me. "Yes." "Oh." I nodded. Maybe he was just another employee. That made me feel slightly better. Then the elevator started moving again. I almost screamed from relief. When the doors opened, I quickly stepped out. I didn't even look back. I started walking as fast as possible. I needed to get to my department before someone reported me for being late. "Miss." I stopped. I slowly turned around. The stranger was standing behind me. "What?" He walked toward me. "You dropped this." He held out my ID card. I looked down at my chest. Oh no. I must have dropped it in the elevator. I quickly took it from his hand. "Thank you." He nodded. I turned to leave. Then I heard him say, "Amelia Rose." I froze. I slowly turned around. "How do you know my name?" He held up my ID card. I looked at it and realized my name was printed clearly on it. "Oh." I felt embarrassed. "Right." He stared at me for a moment. Then he walked away. I watched him disappear down the hallway. Something about that man was strange. Very strange. I shook my head. "Forget him, Amelia." I turned and hurried toward my department.
