CHAPTER TWENTY THREE

643 Words
AMELIA ROSE POV I couldn't stop thinking about the patient's records. Something wasn't right. I had looked at the file several times, but the more I thought about it, the more suspicious I became. Why was the same medication recorded twice? Was it really just a mistake? I decided to check the records again. I walked back to the medical records department and asked to see the patient's original file. The nurse handed it to me. I carefully went through every page. Everything seemed normal at first. Then I noticed something. The medication entry had been changed. I frowned. “Who changed this?” The nurse looked at me. “I don't know. Maybe one of the doctors.” I looked at the record again. “Was there a reason given for the change?” She shook her head. “No.” That made me even more suspicious. I knew mistakes could happen in a hospital, but this didn't feel like an ordinary mistake. Just then, I heard footsteps approaching. I turned around. Dr. Steven walked into the room. He looked at me and then at the file in my hands. “What are you doing here, Amelia?” I quickly stood up. “I'm reviewing the patient's medication records.” He walked closer. “Why?” “There was something strange in the file.” His expression remained calm. “What did you find?” “The same medication was recorded twice, and now one of the entries has been changed.” For a brief moment, I noticed something in his eyes. But it disappeared almost immediately. He calmly took the file from me. “I'll take a look at it.” I nodded. “Okay, doctor.” He opened the file and studied it. “This is probably just an administrative error.” “Maybe,” I replied. He looked at me. “Don't worry yourself too much about it. The investigation team will handle everything.” I forced a smile. “Yes, doctor.” He handed the file back to the nurse and walked away. I watched him leave. Something about his reaction bothered me. He seemed too calm. I turned back toward the nurse. “Did Dr. Steven work on this patient's case?” She nodded. “Yes, he was involved in the patient's treatment.” My eyes widened slightly. That made me think even more. I didn't want to accuse anyone without proof. But I couldn't ignore what I had noticed. I picked up my things and left the department. DR. STEVEN POV I walked down the hallway, keeping my expression calm. Amelia was becoming suspicious. I couldn't let her know anything. I entered my office and closed the door behind me. I took a deep breath. That nurse had noticed more than I expected. I sat behind my desk and looked at the documents in front of me. I had to be careful. If Amelia continued investigating, she might discover something I didn't want anyone to know. My phone suddenly rang. It was Charlotte. I answered. “Hello?” “Daddy, did you talk to Maxwell?” I sighed. “Not yet.” “You promised you would help me.” “I will.” I looked toward the closed office door. “But you need to be patient.” “I don't want to be patient. I want Maxwell.” I smiled faintly. “You'll get him.” After ending the call, I leaned back in my chair. My plan was still moving forward. But now Amelia had become an unexpected obstacle. I knew I had to make sure she stopped asking questions. Meanwhile, Amelia was walking through the hospital hallway with one thought running through her mind. Something was wrong with that patient's medication records. And she was determined to find out what it was.
