AMELIA ROSE POV
The party continued, but somehow everything felt different after Karen told me her secret.
She looked calmer now.
Her eyes were still slightly swollen from crying, but there was a small smile on her face.
"Thank you," she whispered.
I smiled at her.
"You don't have to thank me for being your friend."
She nodded.
"I thought you would look at me differently."
"I don't."
Before she could say anything else, someone walked toward us.
It was Maxwell.
He looked unusually serious.
His eyes moved from me to Karen.
"Is everything okay?"
Karen immediately wiped her face.
"Yes."
Maxwell didn't look convinced.
"Are you sure?"
I nodded.
"She's fine."
He looked at me for a moment before giving a small nod.
"Alright."
Across the room, Liam was watching us.
His expression was unreadable.
He had already done what he needed to do.
Charlotte wouldn't be exposing Karen tonight.
But he knew this wasn't over.
Someone like Charlotte wouldn't simply forget what happened.
---
LIAM'S POV
I watched Charlotte's car disappear through the gates.
She had left in a hurry.
Good.
At least Karen was safe for tonight.
I slipped my phone into my pocket and walked back into the party.
Nobody knew what I had done.
And I intended to keep it that way.
As I walked through the crowd, Maxwell suddenly stopped me.
"Liam."
I turned around.
"Yeah?"
"You've been disappearing all night."
I smiled casually.
"Just getting some fresh air."
For a second, I said nothingThen I laughed again and walked away.
---
CHARLOTTE'S POV
I slammed my car door shut.
My breathing was still uneven.
I pulled out my phone again.
The threatening message was still there.
I stared at it.
Who could have done this?
I had never given anyone access to my phone.
Nobody knew about that video.
Nobody.
I tried deleting it.
It came back.
I tried restarting my phone.
The message was still there.
My hands trembled.
Then another notification appeared.
I opened it.
There was only one sentence.
THIS IS YOUR ONLY WARNING.
I nearly dropped the phone.
I looked around my car.
For a moment, I felt like someone was watching me.
I locked the doors immediately.
"Who are you?"
There was no answer.
I stared at the screen.
Then I realized something.
Whoever had done this wasn't interested in money.
They weren't asking for anything.
They only wanted one thing.
Karen's protection.
I swallowed hard.
"Who is protecting her?"
My mind began racing through everyone at the party.
---
AMELIA ROSE POV
It was getting late.
Karen stood up.
"I think I should go home."
"I'll come with you," I said.
She shook her head.
"No, you don't have to."
"I want to."
She smiled.
"You're really stubborn."
"Very."
We both laughed.
As we walked toward the exit, I noticed Liam standing nearby.
Our eyes met.
For some reason, he looked at me differently.
"Goodnight, Amelia," he said.
"Goodnight."
---
LIAM'S POV
I watched Amelia leave.
She had no idea how close she had been to losing her friend tonight.
And I wanted to keep it that way.
My phone suddenly vibrated.
I looked down.
It was my assistant calling.
I answered.
"Hello?"
"Mr. Liam, I'm calling to remind you that your conference call is about to begin. Should I prepare everything?"
I glanced toward the door Amelia had just walked through.
"Yes. Prepare everything."
I ended the call and smiled to myself.
Nobody knew what I had done.
Not Maxwell.
Not Amelia.
Not Karen.
And definitely not Charlotte.
I slipped my phone into my pocket.
As far as everyone was concerned, I was just Liam—the quiet guy who had been at the party.
But nobody knew the truth.
I was the one who had stopped Charlotte.
And I intended to keep my secret.
I walked away from the party, ready for my conference call.
But deep inside, I knew this wasn't over.
Charlotte might have left tonight.
But sooner or later, she would come back.
And when she did, I would be ready.
