AMELIA ROSE'S POV
I stood there staring at Maxwell.
I couldn't believe he was actually standing in front of me.
“What are you doing here?” he asked again.
I looked around before looking back at him.
“I came here with my friend.”
He raised an eyebrow.
“Your friend?”
“Yes. Karen.”
I looked around the club.
“But she was here a few minutes ago.”
Maxwell glanced around.
“Where is she now?”
“I don't know.”
I sighed.
“She was dancing with someone, and then I lost sight of her.”
Maxwell looked at me for a moment.
“You came here alone?”
“No.”
I shook my head.
“I came with Karen.”
He nodded.
Before I could say anything else, someone walked toward us.
It was Liam.
He had a smile on his face.
“Maxwell, I've been looking everywhere for you.”
Then he noticed me.
He looked at Maxwell and raised an eyebrow.
“So this is the woman you've been staring at all night?”
My eyes widened.
I looked at Maxwell.
“Staring at me?”
Maxwell gave Liam a cold look.
“Liam.”
Liam laughed.
“Okay, okay. I didn't say anything.”
I looked at Maxwell suspiciously.
He didn't say a word.
Suddenly, I heard someone calling my name.
“Amelia!”
I turned around.
It was Karen.
She was walking toward us with a huge smile on her face.
“Where have you been?” I asked.
She laughed.
“I was with Liam.”
I looked at Liam.
Then I looked at Maxwell.
Wait.
Liam?
The same Liam who was standing beside Maxwell?
I looked between the two men.
“You two know each other?”
Liam laughed.
“Of course. Maxwell is my best friend.”
My eyes widened.
I looked at Maxwell.
So my boss and Karen's new friend were best friends?
This was getting weird.

MAXWELL STERLING'S POV
I watched Amelia's reaction.
She looked completely surprised.
I couldn't help finding it amusing.
Liam walked over to Karen and stood beside her.
“So, you're Amelia's friend?”
Karen nodded.
“Yes.”
She smiled.
“And you're Liam.”
He smiled back.
“Yes.”
I looked at Amelia.
She was still trying to understand everything.
“Wait,” she said.
“You're Maxwell Sterling, right?”
I looked at her.
“Yes.”
Her eyes widened.
She suddenly looked embarrassed.
“Oh my God.”
I knew exactly what she was thinking.
She had finally realized that the man she had been arguing with and insulting was her boss.
Liam looked confused.
“What happened?”
I glanced at Amelia.
“Nothing.”
She quickly looked away.
I almost smiled.
She was usually so confident.
But now she couldn't even look at me properly.

AMELIA ROSE'S POV
I wanted the ground to open and swallow me.
I had been calling him all sorts of things the first time we met.
And now I had discovered that he was my boss.
Maxwell Sterling.
The owner of the hospital where I worked.
I felt completely embarrassed.
I looked at Karen.
“I think we should go.”
Karen looked at me.
“Already?”
“Yes.”
I didn't want to stay there anymore.
I could feel Maxwell looking at me.
Karen sighed.
“Okay.”
She turned to Liam.
“It was nice meeting you.”
Liam smiled.
“You too.”
I looked at Maxwell.
“Goodnight, sir.”
He nodded.
“Goodnight, Amelia.”
I quickly turned around and walked away with Karen.
But as we left the club, I couldn't stop thinking about him.
Something told me tonight had changed everything.
