CHAPTER FOUR

667 Words
AMELIA ROSE'S POV I woke up to the loud ringing of my alarm, as if I were deaf. I grumpily got up from my bed and checked the time. My eyes widened. “Jesus! I'm almost late!” The time was already 8:00 a.m., and I was supposed to resume work by 7:40 a.m. “I'm finished!” I quickly jumped out of bed and rushed toward the bathroom. BAM! I bumped straight into my bathroom door. I had forgotten to open the door before trying to enter. “Ouch!” I held my forehead. My forehead was already hurting, but I didn't have time to think about it. I quickly opened the door and rushed inside. I turned on the shower. Instead of putting on the warm water, I accidentally turned on the cold water. “Ahhh!” I screamed as the cold water hit my body. “Jesus!” That was how I completely messed up my bath session. I quickly finished bathing and rushed to my small closet. I put on my clothes as quickly as possible, grabbed my bag, and ran out of the house. As I was rushing out, I bumped into my neighbor. “I'm so sorry!” I quickly apologized. Before my neighbor could even respond, I ran off. I couldn't afford to waste another second. I hurried to the bus stop and quickly entered the bus. I looked at the time. It was already 8:10 a.m. “Oh God, please don't let me be late.” I found an empty seat and was just about to sit down when a pregnant woman quickly sat on the seat. I stood there for a moment. I didn't say anything. I simply moved away and found somewhere else to stand. I sighed. Today was already going badly. I just prayed that I wouldn't get to the hospital too late. Unfortunately, I arrived at the hospital at 8:20 a.m. I quickly entered and met Cassandra. She looked at me. “Good morning, Amelia.” “Good morning.” She handed me my schedule. “Here is your schedule for today.” “Thank you.” She also showed me my office and my locker. I quickly put my things inside my locker and changed into my nurse's uniform. I looked at my schedule. The number one on my schedule was that I had to be the assisting nurse to Dr. James. He was performing surgery on a ten-year-old boy. I quickly made my way to where the surgery was going to take place. When I got there, I saw Dr. James. I introduced myself. “Good morning, Dr. James. I'm Amelia. I'll be assisting you today.” He smiled warmly. “Good morning, Amelia. Nice to meet you.” He was very friendly. And handsome too. I quickly pushed that thought away. This wasn't the time to think about how handsome he was. I had a job to do. I arranged the tools we would be using for the surgery and made sure everything was ready. After everything was prepared, I went inside. When I saw the little boy lying on the bed, my heart broke. He was only ten years old. He had a brain tumor. I walked closer to him and gently spoke to him. “Don't be scared. Everything is going to be okay.” I talked with him for a while and prayed with him before giving him the anesthesia. Slowly, his eyes closed. He fell asleep. A few moments later, Dr. James came in, and the operation started. I assisted him throughout the surgery. It was a long and stressful procedure, but we eventually finished. When we were done, I came out with two other nurses. We carefully took the boy to the children's ward. His parents were already there. They were praying and hoping that their son would wake up. I looked at them and felt emotional. I silently prayed that the little boy would be okay.
