CHAPTER FIVE

MAXWELL STERLING'S POV My phone rang, and I picked it up. It was my assistant, Ethan. “Hello.” “Good morning, sir. I'm calling to remind you about your schedule for today.” I listened as he went through my schedule. I was traveling to China today because I had a meeting with some of the biggest investors in my company over there. After going through my morning routine, I left for my private jet, which was already waiting for me. My assistant, Ethan, was already inside. I entered the jet, and shortly after, we took off for China. After arriving in China, Ethan and I came out of the airport. I entered the black car he had prepared for me, while he entered the second car. We drove off. When we arrived at the meeting venue, I stepped out of the car. I shook hands with the biggest investor there. “It's nice to see you again, Mr. Sterling.” “Likewise.” I noticed a young woman standing behind him. I glanced at her briefly. She was beautiful, but I didn't care. I looked away and followed the investor inside. We began our meeting immediately. The meeting was about a drug that could cure cancer. The formula was being discussed, and we went through every detail carefully. After several hours, we finally finished the meeting. I left the venue and headed straight to my hospital. The hospital was being managed by my friend, Mike. When I arrived, I went to his office. Mike looked at me and smiled. “Maxwell! What brings you here?” “I came to check on things.” We talked for a while before I suddenly remembered the incident from earlier. I don't even know why I decided to tell him about it. I told him about my encounter with the crazy girl. The moment I finished telling him what happened, Mike burst out laughing. He laughed so hard that I started regretting telling him. “What's so funny?” I asked. “You actually met a girl who talked to you like that?” I frowned. “Yes.” Mike continued laughing. “I can't believe someone actually stood up to you and demanded money from you.” I rolled my eyes. “I don't know why I even told you.” Mike finally calmed down. “You need to loosen up a little, Maxwell.” I looked at him. “Who needs to loosen up?” “You do.” I shook my head. “I don't have time for that.” Mike smiled. “You're always so serious. You should try to relax sometimes.” I ignored him. Then I remembered something. “If I ever come across that girl again, I'm going to give her a piece of my mind.” Mike laughed again. I shook my head. “She's crazy.” I paused for a moment before adding, “But…” Mike looked at me. “But what?” I sighed. “She is very beautiful too.” Mike stared at me for a few seconds before bursting into laughter again. I immediately regretted saying it. “Forget I said that.” Mike laughed even harder. I shook my head and looked away. Why did I even tell him that?
