CHAPTER THIRTY ONE

708 Words
EDITH FINCH'S POV I woke up quite early that morning. Unlike some people, I didn't need an alarm screaming beside my bed before I could get out of bed. I opened my eyes, stretched slightly, and reached for my phone on the bedside table. The first thing I did was check my schedule. My eyes widened when I saw how packed my day was. "Looks like today is going to be busy," I murmured. I had several things to accomplish. First, I had a meeting with the selected models. The contracts were ready, and I needed to go through everything carefully before signing them. I wasn't the type of person who signed contracts without reading every single detail. After the meeting, I planned to go shopping for a new car. I had been thinking about getting one for a while, and today seemed like the perfect day to finally do it. Then, later in the afternoon, I had a tea party with some of my friends. It was something we did occasionally—a chance to sit together, drink tea, gossip about everything happening around us, and simply enjoy ourselves. But that wasn't the end of my schedule. After the tea party, I had one more important place to visit. Grandma Sterling. I smiled when I thought about her. She had always been someone I respected deeply. No matter how busy life became, I always tried to make time for her. I looked at the time and quickly got out of bed. "I'd better get ready." I walked toward the bathroom and began preparing for the day. After taking my shower, I returned to my bedroom and opened my wardrobe. I wanted something elegant but comfortable. I finally chose a beautiful outfit and paired it with matching shoes and accessories. After getting dressed, I stood in front of the mirror and examined myself. "Perfect." I picked up my handbag and checked my schedule one more time. First stop: Model contract signing. Second stop: Car dealership. Third stop: Tea party. Fourth stop: Grandma Sterling's house. I smiled. It was going to be a long day. But I was ready for it. I picked up my phone and walked out of my room. As I headed downstairs, I saw my dad, my stepmother, and my stepsister, Olivia, sitting at the dining table. "Good morning, Daddy." My father looked up at me and smiled. MR. FINCH'S POV "How was your night, my angel?" I asked warmly. Edith smiled. "It was great, Daddy. How about yours?" "I'm fine," I replied. I watched my daughter take a seat at the table. She looked beautiful as always, and I was happy to see her in such a good mood. EDITH FINCH'S POV As Daddy was talking to me, Olivia's mother suddenly cleared her throat. I looked at her. She had that familiar look on her face—the one she always wore whenever she wanted to start trouble. "Edith," she said coldly, "are you blind? Can't you see that we are eating here?" I stared at her for a moment. I couldn't believe what I had just heard. Instead of arguing with her, I gave her a small smile. "I can see perfectly well." I paused and looked at Olivia. "If you're so bothered by seeing me here, perhaps you should focus on your own daughter instead." Olivia's expression immediately changed. I leaned back in my chair. "Especially since you seem to have so much trouble keeping track of what she's doing." The dining room suddenly became quiet. My stepmother's face tightened. "Edith!" I raised an eyebrow. "What? You told me to focus on the family, didn't you?" I picked up my cup calmly. "Then maybe everyone should start focusing on their own problems instead of looking for mine." Daddy looked between us, clearly uncomfortable with the tension. I wasn't going to let them ruin my morning. I had a busy day ahead of me, and I wasn't going to waste it arguing with them. I stood up from the table. "Excuse me, Daddy. I have somewhere to be." I smiled at him. "I'll see you later." I picked up my handbag and walked away, leaving my stepmother and Olivia sitting in stunned silence.
