EDITH FINCH'S POV
I walked toward the entrance of the mansion.
The moment I stepped inside, the familiar luxury of the Sterling estate welcomed me.
Everything looked perfect as usual.
The beautiful decorations, expensive furniture, and spotless marble floors reminded me once again just how wealthy the Sterling family was.
Before I could take another step, the butler approached me with a warm smile.
"Good day, Miss Edith."
I smiled at him.
"Good day."
He politely bowed his head.
"How are you today, Miss Edith?"
"I'm doing well, thank you."
I lifted the bags in my hand slightly.
"Is Grandma inside?"
"Yes, ma'am," he replied warmly. "She is in the sitting room."
A smile immediately appeared on my face.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome, Miss Edith."
I started walking toward the sitting room.
I couldn't wait to see Grandma Sterling.
She was going to love the herbal tea I bought for her.
But as I approached the sitting room, I suddenly heard voices coming from inside.
I slowed down.
Someone was talking to Grandma.
I frowned slightly.
Who could be visiting her this early?
I stepped closer to the door and listened carefully.
It was Maxwell.
From what I could hear, he was talking to Grandma about her health.
Apparently, Grandma's health had been getting worse.
"I think you need someone to take care of you, Grandma," Maxwell said.
Grandma immediately frowned.
"I don't need a nurse, Maxwell. I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself."
Maxwell sighed.
"Grandma, please. I'm not trying to control you. I'm just worried about you."
"I don't need anyone following me around all day," Grandma replied stubbornly.
I couldn't help but smile.
Grandma Sterling could be incredibly stubborn.
Maxwell continued trying to convince her.
"I'm planning to bring a nurse here. Someone who can stay with you and make sure you're okay."
Grandma shook her head.
"No. Absolutely not."
"Grandma..."
"No, Maxwell."
I decided I had heard enough.
I pushed the door open and walked inside with a smile.
"Hello, everyone."
Grandma and Maxwell both looked up.
Maxwell's eyes landed on me.
His expression remained cold and unreadable.
"Edith."
"Hello, Maxwell," I replied.
"Hello."
His response was short and cold before he turned his attention back to Grandma.
That was Maxwell for you.
He was always cold toward women.
It didn't matter whether it was me, Charlotte, or any other woman. He never went out of his way to be friendly with them.
I was already used to his attitude.
I quickly walked over to Grandma and wrapped my arms around her.
"Grandma!"
She smiled brightly and hugged me back.
"My dear Edith."
I pulled away slightly and looked at her face.
"It's so good to see you."
Grandma smiled.
"It's good to see you too, sweetheart."
I held up the bags in my hand.
"I brought something for you."
Her eyes immediately went to the bags.
"What did you bring me?"
"Your favorite herbal tea."
Her face lit up.
"You remembered!"
"Of course I did."
Grandma smiled happily.
Maxwell watched us quietly from where he was sitting.
I looked at him before turning my attention back to Grandma.
"So, what were you two arguing about?"
Grandma immediately frowned.
"We weren't arguing."
Maxwell looked at her.
"We were definitely arguing."
Grandma glared at him.
"Maxwell!"
I burst out laughing.
"Okay, okay. Now I really want to know what happened."
Maxwell looked at Grandma before answering.
"I was trying to convince Grandma to have a nurse take care of her."
Grandma rolled her eyes.
"And I told him I don't need one."
I looked at Grandma.
"Grandma..."
She immediately pointed at me.
"Don't you start too!"
I laughed.
"Okay, I won't."
But deep down, I was worried.
If Maxwell was concerned enough to suggest getting a nurse, then Grandma's health must really be getting worse.
I looked at Maxwell again.
He was sitting there with his usual cold expression, but I could tell he was genuinely worried about Grandma.
For someone who was so cold toward everyone else, he cared deeply about his grandmother.
And I respected him for that.
Still, I knew better than to expect warmth from Maxwell.
He had never treated me differently.
And I doubted he ever would.
