CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE

511 Words
AMELIA'S POV I finally got home after a long day. I was tired, but I still had one thing to do. I needed to prepare dinner for Karen and myself before she came back from work. "Today, I'm going to surprise Karen with a nice meal," I said to myself. I walked into the kitchen and started preparing everything. I washed the rice, prepared the ingredients, and put the pot on the stove. Everything was going perfectly. At least, that's what I thought. I became distracted while preparing the other food. A few minutes later, I suddenly smelled something strange. I froze. "Wait..." I quickly rushed to the stove and opened the pot. Smoke immediately came out. "Oh no!" The rice was completely burnt. I stared at it in disbelief. "How did I manage to burn rice?" I sighed. Luckily, I still had the other food I prepared. "Well... at least we won't starve." I quickly turned off the stove and cleaned up the kitchen. Just as I finished, I heard the sound of the front door clicking open. Karen was home. I heard her footsteps coming upstairs. A moment later, she walked into the apartment with a huge smile on her face. She looked extremely happy. I immediately noticed. "Karen, why are you smiling like that?" She dropped her bag and practically ran toward me. "Amelia! I finally got the contract!" My eyes widened. "Really?" She nodded excitedly. "Yes! I got it!" I immediately hugged her. "I'm so happy for you!" We both laughed. Karen had worked so hard for that opportunity, and seeing her finally get the contract made me genuinely happy. As we talked, I suddenly remembered something. "My car!" I quickly walked toward the window and looked downstairs. My beautiful blue Camry was parked outside. Karen followed me and looked down. She immediately recognized it. "Wait... Is that your car?" I smiled proudly. "Yes!" Her eyes widened Karen laughed. I proudly folded my arms. "I told you I would." Karen looked at me and smiled. "Congratulations, girl." "Thank you." I suddenly remembered the dinner. "Oh! I also cooked." Karen stared at me suspiciously. "You cooked?" "Yes." She slowly looked toward the kitchen. Then she looked back at me. "Amelia..." "What?" "Did you burn down the kitchen?" I burst out laughing. "Of course not!" She walked into the kitchen and looked around. Then she noticed the burnt rice. She turned around and started laughing. "Amelia!" I covered my face. "Don't laugh!" "You actually burned the rice!" I shook my head. "I don't blame you. I'm the one who decided to cook for you." Karen laughed even harder. "At least you tried." I pointed toward the other food. "Forget the rice. The other food is still good." Karen smiled. "Okay, chef. Let's eat before you burn something else." I laughed. "Very funny." We both sat down to eat, laughing about my failed attempt at cooking. For a moment, everything felt perfect. Karen had finally gotten her contract. I had finally bought my first car. And we were both happy.
