AMELIA’S POV
I drove my car to work that morning.
When I arrived at the hospital parking lot, I parked my car and stepped out. I turned around and looked at it again, a huge smile spreading across my face.
I still couldn't believe I finally had my own car.
As I was about to walk into the hospital, I saw Charlotte standing in the parking lot.
She looked at me with a confused expression.
“What are you doing here?” she asked.
I frowned at her.
“Don't you have eyes? Can't you see that I drove here with my car?”
I was already tired of her constant nagging.
Without waiting for her response, I simply walked past her and headed into the hospital.
I wasn't going to let Charlotte ruin my good mood.
“Hi, Cassandra.”
Cassandra turned around and smiled when she saw me.
“Wow, you came early today. Did you win the lottery?”
I laughed.
“No. I bought a car.”
Her eyes widened.
“You did?”
“Yes. No more entering buses for me.”
“Wow! I'm so happy for you, Amelia. Congratulations!”
“Thanks, Cass.”
We both went to our department and changed into our work clothes.
After getting dressed, I returned to my office and sat down. I pulled out my schedule and started going through it.
I had barely started when the senior matron walked into my office.
“Dr. Maxwell wants to see you,” she said.
I looked up immediately.
What does he want again?
Ever since what happened at the anniversary, I had been avoiding him as much as possible.
Why did he suddenly want to see me?
Reluctantly, I stood up and headed toward his office.
I knocked before entering.
“Good morning, sir,” I greeted politely.
He didn't reply.
He simply looked at me and said,
“Sit down.”
I did as he said, taking a seat in front of his desk.
What a jerk.
He didn't even answer my greeting.
I stared at him silently.
“I heard you.”
My eyes widened.
Did I say that out loud?
“I'm not talking to you, sir,” I quickly said.
The moment the words left my mouth, I realized how disrespectful they sounded.
I immediately stood up and bowed my head.
“I'm sorry, sir. I didn't mean to say that.”
Maxwell stood up too.
Before I could react, he walked toward me.
He stopped directly in front of me, trapping me between his arms.
My heart immediately began pounding.
“I'm sorry, sir,” I repeated nervously.
He stared at me for a long moment without saying anything.
I kept apologizing, my heart beating faster with every passing second.
Finally, he stepped back and let me go.
I quickly turned toward the door, eager to escape the awkward situation.
But before I could take another step, my foot slipped.
“Ah!”
I lost my balance and fell forward.
Unfortunately, Maxwell was directly in front of me.
I landed against him, and my lips accidentally pressed against his.
My eyes widened in shock.
For a moment, neither of us moved.
Then Maxwell smiled.
Before I could pull away, he leaned closer and kissed me deeply.
My entire body froze.
My heart raced as I struggled to process what was happening.
I completely lost all the breath I had.
