AMELIA'S POV
Today was my day off.
Finally!
After weeks of working and saving every little bit of money I could, I finally had enough to buy myself a car.
I couldn't stop smiling whenever I thought about it.
I was finally going to have my own car.
No more struggling with public transportation.
No more running after buses.
No more standing under the hot sun waiting for a taxi.
I was going to be a car owner.
But before I went anywhere to look for a car, I decided to spend the day cleaning the house.
My apartment seriously needed it.
Unfortunately, I woke up pretty late.
I opened my eyes and stared at the ceiling.
"Oh my God."
I quickly sat up.
I had slept way longer than I planned.
I threw the blanket aside and jumped to my feet.
Or at least, I tried to.
The second I took my first step, my foot somehow slipped.
"Ah!"
Before I could figure out what was happening, I fell backward.
BAM!
My butt hit the floor.
"OH MY GOD!"
I screamed.
I sat there for a few seconds, totally stunned.
Then the pain kicked in.
"My butt!"
I rubbed the sore spot, tears forming in my eyes.
"Why does this always happen to me?"
I slowly pushed myself up.
I stood there for a moment, making sure my legs were actually working.
"Okay, Amelia. Be careful."
I nodded seriously to myself.
"Today is going to be a good day."
I limped over to my wardrobe.
Since I wasn't going to work, I decided to wear something comfortable.
I picked out a simple mini gown and a pair of flat sandals.
After laying out the clothes I was going to wear, I headed to the bathroom.
I needed a shower before I started cleaning.
Everything was going perfectly.
At least, that's what I thought.
I grabbed my soap and started bathing.
Then suddenly—
SPLASH!
The soap slipped out of my hand and landed on the bathroom floor.
I sighed.
"Seriously?"
I bent down to pick it up.
The second my foot touched the soap, I knew I'd made a terrible mistake.
"Wait—"
My feet flew out from under me.
"JESUS!"
BAM!
I landed on the bathroom floor.
"AHHHHH!"
I screamed at the top of my lungs.
"I'm dead!"
I lay there for a moment, staring at the ceiling.
My whole body hurt.
My butt hurt.
My back hurt.
Even my pride hurt.
Tears rolled down my cheeks.
"Why?"
I cried.
"Why does everything happen to me?"
I slowly sat up and looked at the soap lying innocently beside me.
I glared at it.
"You."
I pointed at it angrily.
"You almost killed me."
The soap, of course, stayed completely silent.
I sniffed.
"Don't think I'm forgiving you."
After a few minutes, I finally managed to stand up.
I carefully finished my bath, making sure I didn't step on anything else.
When I came out of the bathroom, I looked around my apartment.
The house was still waiting for me to clean it.
I sighed.
"Today was supposed to be my peaceful day."
I put my hands on my waist.
"But somehow, I've already injured myself twice."
I shook my head.
"Maybe I should just stay in bed."
Then I remembered my car.
A huge smile spread across my face.
"No!"
I couldn't waste the day.
Today was the day I was going to start looking for my car.
I had worked way too hard for that money.
I carefully walked toward the living room.
Very carefully.
I wasn't taking any chances anymore.
As I reached for my phone, I decided to text Karen.
Amelia:
"Hey, babe. I know you're busy right now, but you could at least have woken me up before leaving the house, you know.
I have an appointment with the car dealer today."
I sent the message and waited for her reply.
KAREN'S POV
I was warming up when my phone suddenly buzzed.
I stopped and checked the screen.
It was a message from Amelia.
I smiled when I read it.
I knew exactly what she was talking about.
I quickly typed a reply.
Karen:
"I actually tried to wake you up, but you told me to let you sleep, which I did.
So don't blame me for waking up late."
I hit send and continued with my warm-up.
I couldn't help but smile.
Knowing Amelia, she was probably already running around the house, getting ready for her big day.
She had been talking about buying a car for weeks.
Today, she was finally going to do it.
