Chapter Sixteen: An Alternative Ending

All: Happy Birthday!

Chris and Haru: Thanks guys!

Shane: You guys are so old now!

Blaine: Yeah remember when they use to fight over toys!

Haru: Hey by the way; where's Mai? How can she miss our party.

Cult: Mai won't be coming here for a while.

Kairo: I wonder why!

Cult: Look no one was talking to you so mind your business!

Shane: Guys!

Kairo: You're the reason she's not here! Why couldn't you just stay with that w***e! Instead you come here ruining what we had!

Cult: Because you forced yourself on her! Mai never liked you, it was me! Right from the beginning!

Shane: Guys!

Kairo: You son of a b***h! (Punches Cult)

Cult: (Tackles Kairo)

Chris: Yo cut it out! We're supposed to be celebrating!

Haru: You two are totally ruining our birthday!

Cult: Kairo please! I'm begging you on my knees. I really love Mai, I never felt this way about anyone. Not even Sophie, I can't eat and I can't sleep. I think about her all the time. Now I'm asking you please just let me have her! (Cries)

Chris: Damn!

Kairo: *Sigh* Go to her. Go to her and tell her what you just told me. Go! Before I change my mind!

Blaine: You heard him go!

I know it was wrong of me not to attend the party but I just couldn't stand to be there. I really needed some time to think about things.

Cult: Mai!

Mai: Cult? What're you doing here?

Cult: Come outside! I need to talk to you!

Mai: Can't this wait?

Cult: No I need to talk to you now! Would you come out here already!

Mai: So what is it that you wanted to talk about?

Cult dropped to the floor and immediately started crying. I didn't know what to do, I just stood there.

Cult: Mai I love you! I love you so much I can't stand it! I didn't tell you how I felt because I was scared of really falling in love with someone and I'm sorry! But I'm here now and I need you to know.

Mai: I-I love you too Cult, I think I always have.

Cult: I'm gonna kiss you now!

When I woke up I was in Cult's arms. He was holding me so tightly like he was afraid someone was going to take me from him. I smiled as I rubbed his hair and then I gently placed my head on his chest and went back to sleep.

Cult: Morning!

Mai: I look horrible in the morning!

Cult: You're beautiful.

Mai: Cult what're we gonna do about Kairo?

Cult: He'll be fine. He was the one who told me to come to you.

Mai: Kairo did?

Cult and I dated for about 2 months, it was fun and all but I still felt as though something or better yet someone was missing from my life. I headed for the Furukawa's but no one was home. It was peaceful and I started reminisce about this place and all the amazing times we had here.

I remember the water fight and all the wild and crazy parties they threw. Even missed it when Shane, Chris, and Kairo would make passes at the female customers. They always got slapped for it! I miss Blaine's Shyness and Haru's flamboyant attitude!

Chris: Mai? What're you doing here?

Mai: Oh I just wanted to come by and see everyone, it's been a while since I came here.

Chris: Yeah I know. How's Cult? Since he moved, he doesn't come here as much.

Mai: He's fine...

Chris: What's wrong? Did something happen between you two?

Mai: No we're fine! Everything's fine!

Wow this was the longest conversation I ever had with him not counting that time his brothers beat him up for gambling away their parents money. But it was nice talking to him like this.

Mai: Well I should get going... *gasp* Oh hello Kairo.

Kairo: Hi...how are you?

Mai: I'm fine and you?

Kairo: I have better days...

Kairo looked so sad in his face and I could tell he was still heartbroken. He even cut his hair and dyed it to a much darker brown. Seeing him like this made my heart ache.

Mai: What's with all the boxes? Are you going somewhere?

Kairo: yeah I'm going to Shanghai. It's better for me to go there and start over.

Mai: Oh really? When are you leaving?

Kairo: A month. I still have things to do here first.

Mai: Well I should get going now.

Kairo: Mai!

Mai: Yeah?

Kairo: I just need to know... Are you happy?

Mai: Yeah I'm happy Kairo.

Kairo: Ok then. Goodbye!

Mai: Goodbye!

I left the Furukawa's place balling my eyes out. I couldn't control my tears, they just kept rushing on the sides of my face. The thought of Kairo really leaving broke my heart. I started to think about our past relationship and how I never really thanked him for everything that he's done for me. I started to think about all the girls he would flirt and date with, how cocky abd persistent he was and I started crying even more.

Cult: Mai! Mai What's wrong?!

Not having Kairo in my life would be painful and I don't think I can bear with that.

Cult: Mai would you please tell me what's wrong? You've been crying for hours. Babe look at me.

Cult lifted up my head softly and kissed me on my lips. I tried to smile but more tears just fell down.

"I'm sorry!" I said as I cried even more and louder. Cult held me until I fell asleep from all the crying.

Chris and Cult talking on the phone:

Cult: Hey bro do you have any idea what happened to Mai? I went to go see her and she wouldn't stop crying.

Chris: Uh yeah she and Kairo had a little chat. He told he he was leaving for Shanghai...

Cult: Oh.... I see, thanks Chris.

Kairo: What do you want?

Cult: You know Mai's been crying for days Kairo.

Kairo: She has...Well what do you want me to do? She's your girlfriend, you should be comforting her not bothering me.

Cult: Kairo don't leave please. Other than me, you're a huge part in Mai's life and I can't bare the thought of her even sadder. So please bro stay.

Kairo: Sorry but I can't, there's nothing left for me here.

The next day Mimi came over to comfort me. I wasn't in the mood to see anyone yet alone Mimi. I just couldn't stop thinking about Kairo.

Mimi: Mai please stop crying.

Mai: I can't! I tried but I just keep crying. I don't know whether or not it's because of Kairo.

Mimi: What did he say?

Mai: That he's leaving for good... and after that I just kept on crying.

Mimi: You still love him Mai.

Mai: What? I love Cult.

Mimi: yeah you love him but there's a part of you that still loves Kairo. That's why you're crying so much. I mean after all he was your first. He may not have been your first-love but you're in love with him. Besides that your relationship never really went anywhere.

Mai: I'm in love with Kairo?

I stayed up half the night just contemplating what Mimi had said. Maybe she was right and maybe she was wrong. I loved Cult but there was a part of me that was still in love with Kairo and my heart ached.

Kairo: Hey can I come in?

Mai: Kairo? What're you doing here?

Kairo: You're mom let me in. I...Well Cult forced me to come and talk to you today.

Mai: Cult? But why?

Kairo shrugged his shoulders and paced back and forth near my doorway. It was silent and awkward and he started to speak again.

Kairo: Mai I'm sorry... sorry that I made you cry. I didn't know you would take my announcement that hard.

Mai: It just shocked me. The thought of not seeing you whenever I go to the bathhouse, that's hard.

Kairo: I know but I can't stay like I told Cult there's nothing here for me.

Mai: That's not true! I mean the bathhouse is here, your brothers, and I'm here... Kairo please don't leave! Please!

Kairo: I'm sorry... My plight leaves tomorrow at 3, if you want to come.

Kairo kissed my forehead and he walked out the door. And again I couldn't stop crying. I cried until I fell asleep and woke up the next day.

Haru: Rise and shine Mai we have to go! Mimi told me what happened and you need to get up!

Mai: Haru I really don't feel like going shopping.

Haru: Well we aren't so put these on! Hurry before we're late!

Mai: Late for what?

Furukawa Brothers: Morning Mai!

Mai: What're you guys doing here? You're coming to the mall too?

Shane: Mai look at your eyes! They're so puffy.

Cult: She's been crying a lot...

Chris: We know!

Blaine: So are we ready to go?

Mimi: Yup! Everyone's here!

Mai: *Not everyone...*

These idiots blindfolded me and carried me to the car; I can't believe Mimi went along with that! That is the most terrifying feeling in the world! My senses were heightened and I could feel all the rumbles and transitions the car was making. It felt like I was being dragged on concrete and when they took off the blindfolds we were at the airport.

Haru: Mai look up there?

Mai: Kairo's plight? But-

Chris: No buts! Get up there before it's too late!

Mimi: Well don't just stand there come on!

Mimi and I ran as fast as we could. I was hoping to make it in time but when we got there the plane was gone and so Kairo. I dropped to the floor and I just cried the hardest I could.

Mai: Kairo!

Cult: You really love him don't you?

Mai: Cult I-

Cult: It's alright. No matter what I'll always love you.

Mai: But I didn't even get to tell him! That I love him!

Haru: Oh I doubt that!

Blaine: Yeah I think he heard you.

Mai: What?

Shane: Isn't that right Kairo?!

I looked up and I saw a man reading a newspaper. He put the paper down and just smiled at me. I couldn't see his face because my eyes were so puffy but when I heard his laugh I knew it was Kairo.

Kairo: Mai I love you too!

He grabbed me and hugged me tightly as did I. And then we kissed passionately while his brothers even Cult was smiling happily.

Blaine: you did the right thing little brother!

Cult: I know! She wasn't mine to begin with. It just took me to long to see that.

Kairo: Mai I'm still going to Shanghai, do you want to come with me?

Mai: But my mom and everyone is here.

Mimi: Don't worry! I've already taken care of that!

Mai: Okay but I don't have a plane ticket.

Chris: Stop trying to find reasons not to go and go with him! Cult give it to her!

Cult walked up to us and handed me an envelope. I opened it and it was two plane tickets to Shanghai, China.

Cult: Go! You two belong together!

Mai: You guys planned all of this didn't you.

Kairo: The whole thing was the twins idea.

Haru: I couldn't resist! When Cult told me and Chris; I had to do something!

Shane: Yeah and I couldn't let my brother be miserable for the rest of his life.

Blaine: Yeah seeing Kairo cry was enough for me.

Kairo: I never cried!

Blaine, Cult, Shane, Chris, and Haru: (In unison) You did!

I laughed and I gave the Furukawa brothers and Mimi all a huge hug for the last time.

Mai: Cult thank you!

Cult: You're welcome! Now go before you miss your flight!

Kairo and I held hands and we left for our plight. I really loved Kairo and I'm glad I was with him in the end.

2 years later:

Blaine: I never really realized it before but it's boring here. I don't know why people come here?

Mimi: Maybe it's to see the hot guys who own it.

Shane: She's not lying about that one!

Blaine: I guess! So have you heard from anyone? Are they coming?

Shane: Don't worry! I doubt they'll miss your wedding. By the way, I don't understand why you guys decided to get married again.

Mimi: You just have to be in love to understand!

Shane: Love huh? Yeah that's not me.

Mimi: Don't you want to get married and have a family?

Blaine: Mimi I don't think you-

Shane: I tried that before and it didn't work out.

Mimi: Wait you were married? You!?

Shane: I know how to believe right? We got married really young and I thought I was in love but then I realized she wasn't in love with me.

Mimi: Oh my god. I'm so sorry Shane.

Shane: Doesn't matter it's in the past! (Lion king reference)

Blaine: It happened for the best and besides she was a real b***h anyway!

Shane: You know back then, I would've hit you for saying that but now I don't care! She really was one!

Blaine: Far as hitting me goes you know you guys could never beat me in a fight.

Shane: Oh you want to go right now?

Mimi: Guys stop rolling around on the floor! We still have to get this place straightened up.

Blaine: Shane get off me!

Shane: No let me just lay here!

Blaine: Get off!

Shane: Ew! You better not spit in my ear!

Blaine: Here it comes!

Shane: Alright Alright! I give!

Blaine: Yes! Still the champ!

Chris: I'll say!

Blaine: Chris! Welcome back bro! How was the tour?

Chris: Good! How's everything here?

Mimi: The same. These two are still the same at least.

Shane: Come on Blaine! That's playing dirty! You still spit on me!

Blaine: Suck it up!

Shane: Let's go right now round two! (Tackles him)

Chris: I can't believe you guys are getting married again! Who came up with that?

Mimi: I did! We had nothing to do for our anniversary, so I decided we get married. So where's Haru?

Chris: He had to stop at his shop but he'll be here soon.

Haru: Sooner than never!

Mimi: Haru!

Haru: Hey Mimi! I got your dress, you're going to look amazing for the second time! What are these morons doing? You two! Cut that out!

Blaine: Did you lick me?!

Shane: It was meant to be a bite! Hey Haru!

Haru: Hey! You two are always going at it!

Chris: So where's everyone else?

Shane: I spoke to Cult and he'll be home tomorrow. Kairo and Mai will be here a day before the wedding.

Haru: I miss Mai! I hope she is not still dressing like that!

Chris: I'm gonna go unpack!

Mimi: Okay I'll have lunch ready soon!

Cult: I bought someone with me, is it alright if she joins us for breakfast?

Mimi: Yeah! I'll help you take your things to Cult's room.

Mimi: I don't mind really and it looks like they have to talk.

Haru: What is she doing here? Please tell me you too aren't starting this s**t again!

Cult: Haru don't start alright! Sophie and I are starting over.

Shane: I just hope she's worth it.

Cult: Come on guys that's stuff happened years ago, let it go! Sophie's changed, we've changed! Let the past be in the past please!

Chris: Whatever I don't care! I never spoke to her then and I have no reason now unless...

Blaine: What's going on Cult?

Cult: Nothing!

Haru: What's this? That ring isn't a nothing.

Shane: Did you marry the brod!

Cult: You sound like Kairo! But at least he didn't have a problem when I told him!

Blaine: So Kairo's okay with you and Sophie being married? What did he say?

Cult: I went to go see him a few months back and he said as long as I love her and she loves me back, he doesn't care what I do.

Chris: Is she pregnant?

Haru: Don't joke like that!

Cult: Yeah! She's pregnant but that's not why we got married!

Haru: No one said you did!

Cult: I thought I was over Sophie when Mai and I were together but that wasn't the case. I guess after all these years I still loved her.

Shane: Well there's nothing we can do now.

Blaine: Congratulations Bro!

Cult: Thanks!

Mimi: Is everything alright down here?

Chris: Yeah it's cool! Welcome to the family Sophie!

Haru: Yeah we apologize if we were rude to you before, but you're apart of our family now. So we should just accept that and move on.

Shane: I apologize for my actions in the past too.

Sophie: Thanks guys, I appreciate that!

Mai: I can't wait to see everyone! I'm so excited!

Kairo: I'm sure they'll be excited! Haru's gonna have a fit when he sees you as a blonde!

Mimi: I can't believe my wedding is tomorrow!

Sophie: You're gonna look beautiful in that dress! I can't believe you made this Haru! Maybe you can design my clothes?!

Haru: Totally! You'll be the best dressed pregnant woman I know!

Sophie: Don't forget your niece too!

Haru: Of course!

Blaine: Are you going to sing?

Chris: No?

Blaine: It's my wedding Chris and you sing the best out all of us!

Chris: I know but I quit the band! I missed my brothers too much!

Shane: Well that was obvious! So what're you gonna do you love music.

Chris: I'm gonna open up a studio, I work better behind the scenes.

Blaine: But still can you sing for the wedding? This was our parents favorite song!

Chris: Fine! But Cult you're singing with me!

Cult: Don't throw me under the bus!

Sophie: Why not? You have a good voice!

Haru: You can hit the high notes! Remember when we started our band?!

Cult: I'm not singing!

Kairo: You should sing! It'll be like old times!

All: Kairo!

Chris: Yo Kairo! How's everything?!

Kairo: Awesome! Blaine come on you're the oldest! Why isn't this place breaking in the dow?!

Blaine: Don't come home talking about business! Besides that's Shane's job!

Shane: No you're the one who's suppose to report records to him while I handle the guests!

Blaine: No!

Mimi: Don't start you two! Hey Kairo!

Kairo: Hey Mimi congrats on the wedding!

Kairo: Hey Cult! I know I said it before but I really am happy for you and Sophie. Sophie I'm sorry for everything, You're an official member of the Furukawa household! It's crazy here but you'll grow to love us!

Shane: Oh my god! Who are you and what have you done to Kairo!

Chris: Are you a alien! Did you take over his body?!

Kairo: Shut up! Being in love can change you!

Blaine: I know what you mean!

Shane: Gag! I just threw up!

Blaine: You wanna go!

Haru: Kairo where's Mai!

Mai: Kairo how could you just leave me! And you didn't even pay the cab fare!

Kairo: Sorry baby but I missed my brothers a little bit more than you!

All: Mai!!

Haru: Blonde! You're a blonde!

Mai: before you say anything! I like it!

Haru: I wasn't! You look amazing!

Shane: So cute!

Cult: Hey Mai! You do look great!

Mai: Thanks! Oh Sophie I got this for you! It's for the baby.

Sophie: Mai?! You really didn't have to!

Mimi: Mai!

Mai: Mimi! I'm so happy for you! I really missed all you guys!

Chris: The gang's all back together again!

Haru: Group hug!

Blaine: Shane you d**k! That's a cheap shot!

Shane: Ha! Payback!

Kairo: Those two at it again?!

Cult: As always!

It felt so good being back at the bathhouse! I was so happy for everyone! It felt just like old times.

Sophie: You look beautiful Mimi!

Mimi: Really?!

Mai: Yes you look gorgeous! Haru really did a great job!

Haru: I know! I'm just that fabulous! My guy came to the wedding and I want you guys to meet him.

Mai: Aw!

Haru: Don't make it a big deal! Now come on we have a wedding to start!

Mimi walked down the aisle in her beautiful white dress. Chris and Cult's harmonies were killer as they sung "Isn't she Lovely" by Stevie wonder. The entire wedding was beautiful and I nearly cried when they recited their vows.

Mimi: Blaine I never thought I would fall in love with you but I did. You were so shy and timid and you couldn't talk to girls. But that's what I loved about you, you weren't as wild and crazy like your brothers but you were so sweet and I love you! You make me feel so special and I adore you.

Blaine: Mimi I never been in love before, You're the first girl I ever fell in love with and I don't think I will ever love anyone else. I love you so much! You stop me from being crazy as these guys behind me. I'm glad I met you and I know it's cliche to say this but it was love at first sight.

Kairo and I danced all night and after I danced with all the Furukawa brothers. It was a really fun evening and I missed being with everyone. At the end, Mimi threw the bouquet and surprisingly I caught it. I didn't even intend to catch it, it fell right in my lap! But nonetheless I accepted it and Kairo as cocky as he is; he teased me.

It was time to say our goodbyes and Kairo and I headed back on the plane to Shanghai. I cried as always but it wasn't goodbye, we were always gonna be together no matter where we are and no matter how far!
