Chapter 1
Katalea
This world has taught me that there isn’t light at the end of the tunnel for people who become tainted in the process. The memories run endlessly through your mind, never seeming to go away, even in the times when you think there's hope, it quickly disintegrates and becomes something more. Something painful that you just can’t seem to get rid of as much as you want to keep fighting. There comes a point where you let it consume you and you become this person that can’t feel much for anyone or anything. They feel pain differently than others, sleep differently than others, and interact differently with others, all because their mind and heart are clouded with dark memories and emotions. That’s what I became a long time ago and, since then, the secrets of what I have seen and heard just pile on, creating an unbreakable wall never letting anyone in.
Over the years, the image I have created as Katalea Bianchi has been the most professional for the world I live in where there are ruthless people that will try and screw you over, but, you learn how to take care of those people and earn respect and if you have to, then make the people around you fear you. As an only child, I helped my father keep our empire strong and took over not too long ago. During the day, I am the CEO of one of the biggest marketing agencies in the world and at night I let a different part consume me, where I kill and come home as if nothing ever happened.

Walking into my penthouse, I set everything down and headed into the shower. I wait until the room is filled with steam. After showering, my work phone rings. I usually expect them a little earlier but, this one seems to be different. Taking up the phone, a man speaks on the other side of the phone:
“I have a mission to kill Jacob Ryan. He is 46 and r***d a girl last night at one of the clubs that he owns. I am willing to pay $100,000 if you get it done tonight.”
“ OK,” I said and hung up the phone while getting ready. I call Andrea one of the little people I call a friend but, also my business partner. She has helped me from the start with finding people for me and sometimes even killing them along with me. We both came into the industry together and have now since dominated as some of the best.
“Name.”
“Jacob Ryan is 46 years old,” I told her,
“He’s at one of his clubs in the city, FM to be exact. Good luck,” she says and hangs up. I grab what I need and leave.
Once I arrive, I immediately spot who I was assigned to kill, and heading into the club I keep a low profile. I feel the adrenaline beginning to kick in as I get closer to my target. Walking up to him, I smirk at him and he returns the expression back. Walking up to me, he immediately placed his disgusting hands on my body. My stomach feels sick at the touch of his hands, but, I push through the feeling and persuade him to go into a private room. As he turns around, I pull out my gun and shoot him in the back of his head. His body drops instantly. I pull out my phone and pulled a picture, sending it to the man. Leaving the room, I headed to the back of the club and walked out. The cold breeze instantly hits as I begin to walk more into the city of Boston. Walking up to my car, I looked back and heard yelling from the alleyway. Usually, I mind my business but, something took over and I decided to look into it. As I get closer, I notice that the men are beating on a young child. I quickly pulled them away. They both run away, leaving the child hopeless.
“Hey, do you think you can stand up buddy?” I asked him as he lay there, one hand on his abdomen probably in pain from the kicks.
“Yes, I think I can.” He says as he tries to get up. Walking closer to him, I pulled him up and grabbed his hand, walking him to my car.
“Do you have any family?”
“Yes, I live three blocks from here.”
“ OK, I will take you home,” I told him as I headed into the street. After a couple of minutes, we arrive at the boy's home, which is a harsher part of the city. Walking out, I helped him get to the front door. As I knock, a fragile woman opens the door, her eyes immediately in shock as she sees the young boy and the state he is in.
“Dios Mio Que te Paso Esteban quien te hizo esto!” she yells as she lets us in and I place him on the couch.
“Hola señora, perdón por la inconveniencia me llamo Katalea. Su hijo fue asaltado por unos hombres en la calle y alcanze a intervenir antes que le hicieran mas dano.” I told the lady as she attended to Esteban.
“Muchas gracias señorita que dios la bendiga! Le debo la vida por salvar a mi hijo.”
“Cuidense y asegurase que vayan a la policia para denunsiar a esos delicunetes.” I told her as I walked out of the small house. Once I got into my car, I called Andrea to see if there is any way she could see who did this to the boy.
“Two times in one night that's weird.” She says over the phone.
“Can you find two men, a young boy about 15 years old in an alleyway close to the club FM around 12:00 at night please?”
“Yeah. I can do that. Is something wrong?”
“After the job, I was walking to my car and some assholes were beating up a boy, so I intervened before they killed him and now those assholes are at the top of my s**t list.”
“This is new Lea. You usually mind your business.”
“I just had a bad feeling about it this time.”
“Well, I found the two men and the boy I sent you the recording. If you want, I can be at the location they are at in about 5 minutes. I am pretty close. I’ll bring them to the warehouse.”
“Sounds good I’ll be there at 10.” I hung up and made my way to one of the warehouses that we own. We bought them a couple of years ago when some clients preferred that we keep the targets alive and instead torture them. Andrea and I always thrived on the pain we caused in these warehouses, especially because it was isolated and no one could hear the screams.
Pilling up to the warehouse, I spot Andreas' SUV and walk in to see two men tied up and Andrea sitting there looking bored as ever. I let out a small chuckle as I walked in capturing the attention of the two men. Their eyes went wide as they saw me.
“Glad you two know who I am,” I said as I took off my coat and pulled my hair up. Walking up to the table where we kept most of the tools we used to extract the information, I grabbed a hammer. Andrea still sits there and I know today she won’t take part in anything. There were days when she preferred not to do anything and just watch.
After about an hour of torture, I ended both of their lives. And Andrea and I made sure to burn the bodies to never be seen again.
“I swear this stuff gets boring sometimes, but today it just seemed to be eventful,” Andrea says, handing me a towel to wipe away some of the blood.
“Well, hopefully, this was entertaining enough for you,” I told her as I rolled my eyes at her.
“It was especially knowing these assholes hit a boy,” Andrea says as she stares off into space. So much goes on with her that Malina and I are used to it. After a few minutes, we walk out of the warehouse, and my work phone rings. Andrea and I both stared at each other for a quick second before I answered it.
“Is this Jaguar?” The man asks, calling me by the code name I had in the underworld.
“Yes”
“I have a hit I need you to complete in the span of a week for 7 million.”
“This person must be really important if you are willing to pay that much.”
“ His name is Xavier Costa.” My eyes immediately turned to Andrea. The name sounds familiar and I immediately remember one of the people I worked with telling me this man was the leader of the Italian Mafia.
“I’ll have a response by tomorrow morning,” I said and hung up, my full focus on what to do. Something deeper is going on and maybe just maybe it’s time to call up an old friend.
“I am assuming this one is difficult,” Andrea says.
“It’s not, but, the person that would like me to kill is Xavier Costa….” Before I could finish my sentence, Andrea realizes who it was.
“The leader of the Italian mafia.” She says and her body stiffens at the last word.
“I think it’s time we called Ryan,” I told her as we both got into our cars and drove back to the penthouse. Who knew this would be the beginning of a new tunnel, a much darker and more consuming tunnel?
