Chapter Six: Dinner with Mom

1127 Words
We were seated in the corner of the restaurant, we normally got this table. It was perfect, the lights weren’t too bright or too dim, and the music wasn’t too loud or too quiet it was the sweet spot. We ordered our usual mine was chicken Alfredo and moms was eggplant parmigiana. “So have you talked to her yet?” Mom asked excited. “Yes, I can’t wait to let her transition tonight!” My enthusiasm was through the roof. “What’s her name?” She asked. “Aura, what’s yours?” Realizing I’d never asked before. “Char, she has chocolate colored fur.” Mom answered. “What was dads like?” Wishing I could have seen it. “He had white fur that glittered in the moon light. He was so handsome. His wolfs name was Beau.” She was thoughtful for some time remembering him. I was so jealous that I couldn’t even remember his face anymore. I’d seen pictures of him but my memory of him faded. I couldn’t even tell you how old I was when he passed. Wishing I hadn’t brought up such memories of him. After some time of silence mom started talking again as if nothing happened just a slight glitch. We ate and laughed joking about all the times we’ve had here. Just as we finished she started looking around and giggling. I watched in horror as the wait staff started bringing out a dessert and singing happy to me. My cheeks were burning with embarrassment, not one for having all eyes on me. After the left us I glared at mom and all she did was shrug and smiled unapologetically at me. “Here I have some gifts for you.” She handed me a bag. Opening the bag with care there were a few things in it. The first was a small black box, upon opening it there was white gold ring with an emerald cut ruby. My mouth hung open as I admired it. It was so elegant, it fit my ring finger perfectly. “Your father bought that for you the day he found out I was pregnant with a little girl.” She smiled at the memory. My eye burned with tears, the ring was engraved it said ‘I love you Always- Daddy’ one stray tear escaped my eye as it slid it into my finger. Reaching back into the bag there was a medium sized box. Opening it slowly there was red tissue paper in it. Wrapped in the paper was a white gold jewelry box with the name ‘Scarlet’ engraved in the top. Looking at it weirdly I opened it the inside was all red velvet with a small oval mirror. There were little drawers that I opened and there was a necklace that matched the ring with a note. ‘My dearest Scarlet, my love burns for you with the heat of a thousand suns. I will never falter nor will I ever hurt you. You gifted me with a beautiful son and for that I will be forever grateful. I love you always my darling, Theodore.” I looked at my mother not understanding what she had given me. “Scarlet and Theodore are your father’s parents, they died in the war. I kept these thing for your eighteenth birthday. I also have some family pictures left to give you.” She smiled at me sweetly. “Thank you mom. I wished I could have met them.” Sadness tainting my heart. “Open the last one! It’s from me!” Her expression to me this was he favorite gift. Pulling out the oblong box wrapped in silver paper, I started to unwrap it slowly. I always did this because I didn’t like messing up such pretty paper. This had always annoyed my mom. Under the paper was a plan white box, when I opened it there was pink tissue paper. Moving the paper I found a lovely silver gown the bodice had rhinestones on it. A sweetheart neckline, strapless and backless. It was beautiful my mouth hung open as I admired this beautiful silk dress. “This is so pretty,” I was talking to myself. “It was the dress I wore when your father and I announced our engagement. I even wore this dress to your father’s coronation.” She beamed at me. “Coronation?” I was confused dad was Leto’s beta why would he need a coronation. “Your father was an Alpha pure blood. Our pack was destroyed before the Great War it was was caused the war actually. He was the Alpha when our pack the Green Mountain pack, was attacked. After the attack we took what was left of our pack here. Leto had just became the Alpha of the Blue River Pack and your father and he had been best friends. They went to the same school and even college. He offered what was left of our pack into his. He even gave the ones who came with us new homes, jobs and has made them feel as if they were never outsiders.” She was explaining all of this to be quickly. I had never known that I was Alpha blood it was kind of cool. Not that I thought any less of Beta blood lines or Omega blood lines. I just never expected this, we finished our meal and talked about work and school. We didn’t really talk about the transition until we got home. After we got upstairs mom had me remove all my jewelry, makeup and were baggy sweat pants and a sweater I was really nervous about it. I’d heard about the searing pain of shifting for the first time. We waited till midnight and walked into the back yard. “Okay take your clothes off!” Mom commanded. I looked at her in horror I didn’t want anyone to see me naked. “Oh come on, it isn’t anything I haven’t seen before! Besides the staff here have gone home and the triplets won’t be home till Monday. It’s just you and me!” The joy in her eyes made me smile. I stripped down and left the clothes on a chair it was kind of chilly tonight. I faced the moon and took a deep breath. “Get on all fours! It will be easier!” She called to me. Following her instructions I knelt down on the cold ground which wasn’t as cold to me as I expected it to be. I kept taking huge breaths in and out to calm myself before I let Aura drive. “Ready? Remember just keep breathing!” She was being so gentle.
