CHAPTER 8 By this time I'd been on the job for three weeks. It felt like three months. Meanwhile, though, I had managed to find a flat in the small town of Eltville, a wine-growing region on the Rhine. It was within walking distance to the shops and only a quick drive to the firm's offices in Wiesbaden. The flat was small and fully furnished with a large living room, which I soon converted into a second office, and windows looking down to the Rhine river. Most importantly, I had been able to move in immediately. Having my own four walls made my twelve-to-fourteen hour workdays more tolerable. Also, being in the countryside had its own attraction.
