CHAPTER 13 My mother's health continued to deteriorate. The only contact I had with her was through Frau Kohl. She refused to speak to me personally, or to Liz. I didn't know the real reason, but I could guess. A gut feeling told me the domestic fighting was coming to a head. Any extra effort on my part to see her was torpedoed by her doctor who said she was still too ill to receive visitors.
