Chapter Five

1204 Words
Maya Rose The man standing in front of me was the simply the most dazzling person I have ever seen in my life. It was quite clear that Sebastian Crawford was handsome from all the pictures and videos I had seen of him but seeing him in person had a totally different effect. It felt like something had forcefully slammed into my gut, cutting my breath short and leaving me feeling helpless. He wasn’t handsome in the typical way but instead had deep, striking features that made it hard to tear my eyes away from him. He had a head full of thick, wavy dark brown hair that was pushed back and looked like he had run his fingers through it a thousand times, with some strands falling messily over his forehead. It did nothing to diminish his appearance though. God knew I would never be able to rock such a hairstyle as my hair would end up looking like a chicken’s nest. His eyes were a piercing grey and seemed to see through me, staring right at my innermost thoughts. His lashes were long enough to make any girl jealous and were so thick it almost looked false. He had a long, straight nose and his cheekbones looked like they had been sculpted by master sculptors. His jaws were tight with his full pink lips pressed in a line. His face was placed in his usual impassive scowl that seemed to never leave his face no matter the situation. My eyes trailed down his body, resting on his tattooed neck before going down to his broad chest that seemed to strain against his shirt. Sebastian Crawford was huge, standing over 6ft tall with a body that looked like a wrestler’s. He had a thick, broad chest and muscled arms that always seemed like a tight fit in his suits with huge hands that were filled with tattoos. I felt like a child just standing in his presence even though there was distance between us. There was this…this presence he gave off, an aura he exuded that just screamed power. It wasn’t from his looks or his designer clothes that fit him like a glove, from his dark blue suit to the pure leather brown shoes to his what I considered a diamond stud and his pure silver watch. It came from inside him, the same way his aura gave off riches, wealth, power and danger. After all, he was a man that had dined with people more powerful than I could ever imagine. There seemed to be an air of danger around him, a darkness in his piercing gray eyes. Just one look at him had every nerve in my body screaming danger, this was not a man to be messed with. The sound of a throat clearing snapped me out of my thoughts the same time I felt a pinch on my arm. I looked up to find him, Linda and who should be his chief secretary, Paul watching me with amusement clearly written in Sebastian Crawford’s gaze. I felt my face flush in embarrassment, the heat climbing up to my ears as Linda patted my arm. “Mr. Crawford”, Linda said in greeting. “Linda”, he answered her with a slight lift of his chin before he turned to me and raised one eyebrow. His voice was deep and smooth, with a gravelly edge to it that seemed to come from his chest, sounding like an extremely beautiful melody. Linda cleared her throat slightly before placing her hand on my arm and pushing me forward gently. “I would like to introduce you to your new executive assistant Mr. Crawford. This is Maya Rose Richards and she would be working with you directly now.” At that moment, I felt so many eye’s piercing into me and I finally realized just went down. My brain finally picked up its normal rhythm and I found myself wondering why Linda promoted me to executive assistant immediately I was hired when it was quite clear that there were others here who had worked for a longer time, clearly knew the company and the president more than me and most probably deserved to be here more than I did. It was clear to me that Mr. Crawford had approved of Linda hiring a new executive assistant for him when he could have just picked from his already existing assistants. There was clearly something else going on. I schooled my features and stepped forward, shaking the hand Sebastian had stretched out. “Nice to meet you Mr. Crawford”. I placed my had in his, his huge one completely covering mine and the heat he was emitting warming up my palm. I felt tingles rushing up my body at the contact and it felt like he felt it too because his eyebrows went up and a surprised expression appeared on his face. I composed myself and stepped back, letting my hand fall from his. Since I was here, then I was going to stay, no matter what came my way. After all, I had fought too hard to get here to allow unknown challenges block my path. “This is my chief secretary Paul”, Sebastian started speaking, pointing at the man next to him. “Both of you are going to be working together most of the time so Paul is going to show you around and introduce you to everything you need to know. Meet him if you have any questions.” He glanced at his watch, “I’ll be leaving now I have a meeting to attend. Paul your with me and get someone to show her her office”. With that, he strode away, walking towards the door with a purpose and I resisted the urge to turn around and watch him. “I’ll be taking my leave too”, Linda said, suddenly reminding me that she had been standing besides me all this time. “I’ll see you later”, she said to me. “Ok. Thank you very much for your help, I’ll be sure to treat you to lunch when I’m settled in”. She smiled at my words, “I’ll hold you to that. Do make sure she’s okay Paul”. With that, she turned around and left. I turned to find Paul watching me. He chuckled softly then stretched out his hand, “Welcome to the team”. “Thank you?” I asked, confusion clear on my face. “No harm”, he said. “Come on, I’ll show you your office then assign someone to assist you with anything you will need. I won’t be able to introduce everything to you today, after all I can’t have Mr. Crawford waiting for long”. I nodded, understanding where he was coming from. He lead me a little to the left where the office was situated. Opening the door, Paul stepped aside and let me enter first and I inwardly commended him for being a gentleman. The office was airy and spacious and I instantly liked it. It was a good working environment.
