Chapter 8The homes on Maluhi'a Street, a cul-de-sac in a newer subdivision, sat on half-acre lots with the houses built closer to the street. The rear yards were expansive and provided plenty of space for private entertaining. Older subdivisions on Kauai were less expansive. Most houses and yards were so small that people set up picnic tables in their garages and carports when entertaining large groups or extended family.
