After running for about four and a half hours and getting past at least 10 or more Halos, we finally got to the so-called safe place. I got to say it looked more like a shed than a safe place, starting to think she may be pulling my chain. Well that’s what I thought about the outside, but when we went inside the place looked like a freakin palace. The interior looked like the medieval castles when knights and dragons were around. It was beautiful, beyond explanation. While I was very busy admiring the set-up, I didn’t realize how quiet it was, but the further we went in, I started hearing something and the closer we got, the more I was able to hear it until I realized it was people talking. It sounded like a lot of men getting a little more confused. I wonder if they are like me (a normal person) or like – I paused and looked over at her. The weird thing was she looked worried or if I didn’t know any better, she looked kind of scared. What the hell could she be nervous about? This just makes me even more nervous about the fact that a kick-ass female like her fears something. I mean, come on, I’ve only known her for about six or seven hours now, but she’s never shown the look of fear about anything.
I saw a big door ahead of us, and it looked like that is where we were heading but something seemed familiar about the door. I know for fact I’ve never seen it before, but, I think it was in a dream of mine. The door had to be at least twenty feet tall but, it was navy blue and the designs on it were black. Besides all the other incredible details, one thing out of all of it caught my eye. It was a picture of a neon blue flame, it looked a lot like the flames that were burning me alive in my dreams. After thinking about it so much, I felt really hot and felt something slightly brush my right arm, but by the time I looked down it looked like it vanished. I’m just beyond done with all this creepy s**t, and we are almost right at this huge door and I can’t help but feel like a coward.
When we got to the door, I looked over at her, and she looked like she was trying to calm her nerves while her hands laid flat on the door as if getting ready to push it open. It looked like she was about to open the door, but she stopped for a second and looked at me with a slight sweet grin, like she was trying to say it’s okay. She told me“ Not to worry, my lord, do not feel intimidated by your men. After you left things got pretty difficult and a lot of them are still grouchy as ever, but they still live to serve you, whether you remember them. Don’t worry, none of them dare bring you harm. Remember we fight by your side; your life is the only one that truly matters.” I was a little shocked by how she could say all of this nonsense with a straight face. She faced the door, took a deep breath and pushed open the big door. I was blinded by the light for a few seconds, but when we walked in everyone stopped and stared at me, then I realized they weren’t just staring at me - they were looking at both of us in shock.
The room was full of whispers and chatter. When I looked at the girl, I noticed she was looking straight ahead. I followed her gaze. Three tall men, one on the left with dark brown hair and yellow eyes, had a mischievous smile while looking at her. It kind of pissed me off. The one in the middle had dark blue hair and purple eyes with a smug look on his face as if he was impressed or knew something she didn’t, but the third one caught me off guard. He had hair almost as long as hers and if that wasn’t bad enough, it was pure white, just like hers. The only difference was his eyes. One was blue and one was green. The look he was giving her made me uneasy. After looking at her, she closed her eyes, after taking off her cloak, she kneeled down on one knee, placed her scythe beside her and held her hand over her heart while expanding her beautiful wings to the fullest; tilted her head downwards. I was standing there frozen, I didn’t know what to do, was I supposed to copy her or something. I realized why she did that though. The three men were walking towards us after dismissing everyone else that was in the room. They stopped directly in front of us, but unexpectedly they bowed to me the way she did to them. I didn’t know what the hell was going on. They stood up but the girl continued to bow, the man with white hair laid his hand on her head. She flinched as he did this, he dragged his hand, caressing her cheek and lifting her head to face him.
While he was doing this to her, the other two just stood there watching with an unpleasant smirk. The white haired man looked up towards me and apologized,“ My Lord you have my humblest apologies for my delinquent sister and any trouble she may have caused you. Originally, I was to be the one to find you before your awakening, but dear Nanimi took matters into her own hands”- he brought his gaze back to the girl, “Now Nanimi do tell us why you felt the need to disobey your orders? You leave with no goodbye rather than return with the Demon lord, years later may I add, while knowing this was a very complex situation that you could have severely worsened. -To be honest, I’m a little upset that you didn’t even leave me a letter. Your big brother just had to send out a fallen to try and find you, but coincidentally, they never returned, so I just had to try and keep my composer hoping you would return to me safely. Do you enjoy making me worry dear sister?”. He said it in such a weird way I wouldn’t have thought they were relatives by the way he spoke to her, the way he kept touching her - it infuriated me. She looked as if she was choking on her words, “Brother, it was not my intention to take your mission, I just wanted to prove to you and counsel that I am useful to the army and our cause. I thought if I could find lord Yato it would prove my abilities. I found him shortly after his rebirth and studied the caregivers he was placed with. I would observe from far, but there were a few times he was in a life or death situation and I had to risk showing myself too early. For my mistakes I apologize, but for the rest- I did what I had to do.”
While the others kept smirking, her so-called brother gave her a deathly stare, as if he were mad, she is sticking up for herself. While all this is going on, I’m still stuck on the part where I’m a ‘demon lord’. That wasn’t the only thing really bothering me though, like why the hell is this dude that claims to be her older brother being such a d**k in a creepy way? I had enough with him touching her at that point. While she was still kneeling, I demanded “that’s enough, leave her alone!” I was pissed. I pulled her up and behind me as if to protect her from those three, especially her so-called d**k-headed brother. All three men were surprised by my sudden actions, including Nanimi. The guys with the dark hair took a step back and had a stern look on their faces. They looked at the light-haired one, then gazed down at the floor worriedly. “My lord I mean you no disrespect, but please, this is a family issue”, the guy with long hair shot a glance at my hands that were holding her behind me. I swore he was going to burn a hold in my hand. “My Lord thank you for your generosity, but please don’t, you’ll only make it worse”, she whispered so softly in my ear, I could hear the shakiness in her voice. I released her, but instantly regretted it. As soon as I let her go she reluctantly stood by her brothers side, her gaze set downwards while her brother patted her head. He slowly separated a lock of her flawless hair, several strains of it fell back and slid down her arm to rest on her side while he still held the rest of that lock and slowly brought it close to his lips and kissed it, and shot me a glare.
After a few minutes of awkward silence, the blue-haired man spoke up, “Well-this wasn’t a very good first impression to finally getting to be in your presence once again, my lord of and I apologize on behalf of the counsel. We, on the other hand, are glad you’re here. We have been waiting over two centuries for you to be resurrected. As well for lack of introductions, I am the counsel president and my name is Keto Tatora, the gentlemen with the dark hair is Misaki Lucius, and he’s the counsel’s guard/advisor, and finally, the siblings are Nanimi and Usuei Warcrops. We are all nobles, but they are the highest ranked nobles because their bloodline links to the first generation of our kind. Usuei was the president for a long time until he decided to give me the roll, since he had a lot to do beyond the counsel, and our beloved Nanimi is the only female noble from centuries back, that’s why it’s so important for her to stay by her brothers side, which is why Usuei is so protective of his sister."
I looked her way and saw her still looking at the ground while Usuei had his arm around her waist from the back and with a lock of her hair still in his hand. You could see this mischievous smirk on his devilish lips. It made me sick of him. I was so aggravated by everything going on, I started feeling my neck and back heat up again, but this time I felt lightheaded and began to lose my concentration and slowly my balance went with it. I ended up blacking out and the last thing I saw was her. I saw her pull away from him and rushed to me. I felt no pain. Honestly, I felt calm. I started to cool down but still felt warm. I kept smelling fruit and started to think I was being hugged by my mom again, but remembered she’s no longer with me, then I realized the only other person I knew to have such an intoxicating smell was-“N-Nanimi?” I slowly opened my eyes to see she was holding my head on her lap while Misaki and Keto were trying to get a response from me. My eyes got heavy, and my skin felt like it was burning. I ended up blacking out again, before my eyes completely closed, I noticed a blue glow on the side of Nanimi’s face and something causing her eyes to look like they were reflecting the same blue glow was the last thing I saw before being engulfed into darkness.
A few hours later I woke up in bed. I looked around and nothing looked the same to me, but everything felt familiar. I was kind of wishing all of this were a dream, but I guess not. I sat up in the bed I was in, it was so soft, and it had to be a king-size for how big it was. The sheets felt like silk, but they were also really comfy. I scooted to the edge of the bed. The room was damn near freezing, but I felt like I had just gotten out of a sauna. I noticed there were some clothes on a dresser nearby. I walked over to the dresser and there was also a letter right on it. After getting dressed, I read the letter and it said:
“Dear Lord, Yato
On behalf of the counsel and your subjects, we do hope you regain your strength. Nanimi and Keto took you to your room due to blacking out in the main hall. We understand you’re going through a lot to regain your memories, but please do remember it’s for the cause of the greater good. We need you to do whatever you need to do to gain your memories as soon as possible. It is our first and far most important task at hand right now. Vice-president Usuei has left on a mission, so if you need anything please let the rest of the council know. When you’re ready, please meet us in the dining hall, and we will answer as many questions as we can. Do remember, though there is a lot you must learn on your own to gain back what you once knew. That includes your powers.
We will be waiting in the west wing. Do feel free to come down when you’re ready, My Lord. Also, as a friendly tip, no one has authority over you, but do remember, by being a demon Lord for the fallen, there are many who oppose you, some may even be within the counsel and with that said, do try not to get infatuated with Lady Nanimi. Usuei is overly protective of her and, as you’ve already seen, it’s not just in a brotherly way. He lives by his oath, but from knowing him as long as I have, when it has something to do with his little sister-he’s even been considered a threat. No matter, though, soon enough once you gain your strength again, you need not worry about such things, as well as being able to choose any woman in the kingdom like you like, except for lady Nanimi, that is. You may do as you wish and are superior to all of us, but I suggest being cautious of who you anger until you’re able to defend yourself without assistance.”
-Misaki
After reading the letter, I put it in my pocket and looked around the room. The interior is definitely old-fashioned but in great condition and still pretty stylish. According to the letter, this is my old room. It does look like no one’s really been in here, besides maybe to keep it dust free. I’ll admit this room is fit for a king or lord -whatever, while walking around the room I got a glimpse of something glowing underneath the bed. I decided to inspect the glow, I got up on my stomach and. army crawled under the bed just enough to reach it. I pulled it from underneath the bed and realized it was a box, not like any box I’ve ever seen, but it looked familiar to me, kind of like that door leading to the main hall with the flame on it. Weird enough, the box had the same engravements- right down to the last detail, including the blue flame on the lock of the box, but there I realized there was a small piece of paper attached to it, another letter, but all it says is, “Lord Yato, when the time is right you will have the ability to open this box for it was yours in your past life, do not lose it, from Nanimi, also I beg you not to tell anyone I gave this to you”. I wonder if Nanimi could tell me what the flame represents. In that case, I should go ahead and go to the dining area. I had completely forgotten they were waiting for me. I hid the box in a big coat closet at the top and put some stuff in front of it. I don’t know why I did that, but I just thought it’ would be a smart idea. I don’t want anyone coming in and taking it before I can figure out what’s inside.
While walking down the steep hall I kept looking at familiar doors, and it was like I knew where I was going, but in all reality I didn’t. I went down the stairs and walked past the twenty-foot door with imperial designs. I don’t know what it is, but it just gives me an unsettling feeling like I really did forget something, but no matter how hard I try to think, nothing comes to mind.
I finally made it to the dining area and when I opened the door, I swore it was like a feast for an army of a hundred men, while being greeted by Keto guarding the door and seeing Misaki stand to greet me beside Lady Nanimi; may I say she was stunning. She wore a beautiful black fitted dress with small straps and outstanding embroidery, there were small diamonds fading downward of her chest to the laced bottom that exposed only one of her knees while covering everything above her ankles. She was magnificent.
When she caught my gaze she looked away for an instant, feeling flustered. I realized I'd just been gocking at her for the past few minutes while the others watched me. I looked away full of embarrassment. I felt my neck and face heat up in seconds. To break the silence, Misaki’s deep and strong voice fills the room, “Welcome to the dining area my lord, we hope your rooms filled were satisfactory for you, and we trust you made it here with ease” – “Oh- yes everything was very nice, I apologize for any concern I cause any of you last night, I don’t mean to be a burden, I don’t really remember why I passed out last night the way I did.” I replied. Keto chuckled and said it's no burden; that they are pleased to serve their lord, swear that name gets more annoying every time they say it, but then again, it's different when Nanimi says it- it just makes me feel a little self-conscious when she says it but not in a bad way.
We all sat at the table and ate lunch. Misaki and Keto were speaking with me about different things about the realm I supposedly need to take over and laws I need to look over as well as needing to start my training as soon as possible, but Nanimi just sat there quietly and listened, she didn’t say a word, sat there pushing food around on her plate, she did not look amused, honestly she looked kind of upset. I started thinking that it was because her brother wasn’t there. As soon as that thought popped up in my head, I remember the way he kept putting his arms around her-it made my blood boil. I felt my hands get clammy and my neck felt like it was inches away from a burning stove. Why does the very thought of him enrage me so? It’s not like we are close or anything, but then again, she saved my life more than once. I had just remembered what she said last night about her watching me as a kid and only intervening if necessary. Does that mean she saw the old man beating the crap out of me? Was she always following me or just when I was at home? I sat there puzzled, not hearing a damn thing Keto and Misaki were saying, but knowing they were still talking to me, not realizing I was paying no mind to them, but I caught myself looking at her when all these thoughts just came to me one after another. I need to talk to her. I wanted answers that only she could give, and though I didn’t want to admit it at the time, I just wanted to be alone with her. I wanted to know why she was acting so differently from our first encounter, or at least the encounter I remember.
Without thinking, I blurt out, “Nanimi do you have time to talk later? There are a few things I need to know, but I’d like it to stay between us. No offense to you guys, but this is more personal, and she’s the only one that I can rely on for the answers I need, so I would rather it was me and her alone tonight”. I started determinedly until I realized I basically just asked to see her alone tonight and no one to disturb us. I can’t express how embarrassed I felt, and even though it felt like I was sweating like a bob cat in the middle of July, but I tried my hardest to keep my composure in hopes they wouldn’t get the wrong idea; if she said no, I might just die right here right now with all my regrets in life to bury me.
When I asked her, you could tell she was really nervous about answering, because her face turned bright red and she just looked at me like she didn’t know how to answer. She’d also casually glance at the other two to see their expressions like she was scared to answer me. Later, it seemed she had an inner battle with her decision. She finally gave me an answer,“ Of course my lord, you can tell me when and where to meet you this evening. I’d be glad to be of any assistance to you, and I’ll answer any questions you have if I’m able to, please do forgive me, but there are a few things I must attend to until then, and with that I shall excuse myself, until this evening my lord.” She spoke in such a soft and still tone, after answering me she left with a bow; quickly walked out of the dining area.
