Chapter Two

838 Words
It was like a flash of light and sound when there was a knock at Veronica's door, making her heartbeat race. Was it someone to capture her and torture her until the end of her days? Her breath stilled, fading into the cold atmosphere of her house. "There are here aren't they?" Veronica gulped, "I don't know.." her voice sounded like a squeak of a mouse, so small and almost silent. "Don't answer." "No, answer the door Veronica! You can't always be here inside, hiding from the killers that won't come for you. Remember, I fight for you!" "Veronica, don't listen to her! Listen to me! I know what's good for you and what isn't." Veronica held her head in her hands, her breath slowly raising into panic and rage all at once. "Both of you shut up!" she yelled at her wall, seeing her demon and angel's faces. "Stop talking to me all at once, dammit!" Then there it was, another knock with a simple, "Hello?" Veronica's demon screeched, covering his mouth, "They're here, Veronica!" Her angel rolled her eyes and slapped his arm, "Oh, stop it, Joe. No one is there, it's probably a mail person." Veronica trembled, her body going cold when her angel sighed and walked to the door, giving a small smile to Veronica in the meantime. "It's okay, Veronica. Just open it." Her smile was warm, calming down Veronica's body and slowly she started to move her feet until they reached the door. "Are you sure, Helena?" she whispered, starring deep into the holes of where Helena's eyes used to be. She smiled, "Of course. When am I not sure?" Joe shook his head in discouragement, about to open his mouth to speak, but shut it and put his head down. Veronica's hand touched the doorknob, having Helena unlock the chains that kept anyone from coming into her home. "Come on, honey. I'm right here." Veronica nodded, turning the knob slowly, her breath coming harshly out of her nostrils. She closed her eyes, trying to listen to the beat of her heart as she turned the doorknob more until she heard a click signalling that it was open now. "That's it, honey! Keep going!" Helena smiled brightly, her eye sockets widening when Veronica opened the door to peek her right eye out and then saying a small, "Yes?" When Veronica's eyes focused, she sighed out in relief, seeing that it wasn't the man to take her, but instead it was a tall woman that had long silver hair, dyed obviously, short black eyebrows and green eyes, her tips also dyed black going into an ombre with the silver. Slightly, her roots were showing and her skin was as pale as a vampire. From the light shinning on her, you could see deep scars on her arms, wrist and shoulders, even though her body was covered with a long red coat. Veronica could tell even though her coat hid everything, probably because when she smiled and held out her hand for Veronica to shake, her coat moved slightly up from the sleeve and slightly to the side from her shoulder movement. "Hello! I'm your new neighbor! My name is Lucy and I'm very excited to meet you! I have talked to the other neighbors around us and they had told me you don't come out much, but I'm so glad you did just now! What's your name? Your very pretty, too!--" Veronica frowned, losing interest in the things she was talking about. Instead she focused on Lucy's features and mouth movement, she also noticed she had a small scratch on her cheek that looked new. When she smiled, her lips moved a lot and her teeth weren't close to being crooked. With the sunlight, Veronica could tell she barley shaved her eyebrows not too long ago, because she couldn't see her new growth of eyebrow hairs. "--So with all that being said, I will be back tomorrow to get to meet you for sure! Please, please, please answer the door, okay? It will be me so you have nothing to worry about!" she laughed, making Veronica smile a bit and nod, having no idea what she said the whole time she was talking since she was observing her features and details her face held. "O-Okay--" said Veronica, only for Lucy to squeal and jump a bit like a baby getting a new toy. "Cool! I will be back tomorrow around 3:10 because that's when I get out of work!" Lucy grinned, her eyes shinning with the sunlight. Veronica nodded once more, a slight shine in her eyes as well when Lucy backed away and waved a goodbye, walking to her home. "Well, now you have a friend, Veronica!" Helena laughed, turning her head to where Joe was behind her, "Great job, genius! Now she's going to meet us and I have to look nice--!" Veronica blocked out Joe and Helena, frowning at the sound of "friend". Does she really have a friend, now?
